Actually I was suprised to see the course requirements for computer science majors at several local colleges around here where I live. Many simply focus on learning languages like java, javascript, and of course C#, and C++

Very few actually learn web design and relative languages. Very few also ever teach how to build a website and publish it on a rmeote server! I was shocked! lol

My degree was like that too. I had one HTML class, as an elective and got a job as an HTML specialist coding for designers. Several years later and anything useful on the subject I learned on the job. I'm sure there are degrees out there that focus on web-design but I don't know any places locally.

What do you mean by internet system? If you want to learn about web-design, that's not something that can be summed up in a few paragraphs.

You can work on HTML/CSS locally on your own computer without needing web space, but unless you feel like installing Apache or any other server software onto your computer you're probably best finding some free hosting to play around to work with PHP and MySQL.

The above link is a good place for lots of space. They however have security settings set that they will in no way shape or form change, so it can be troublesome to install software. They have a very easy setup for MySQL tables so it's a good way to at least learn the basics.

The above link is another decent spot for free hosting. They don't have the security settings that block software that I find annoying on zymic, but they don't give you a lot of disk space and not a ton of bandwidth.

I'm sure lots of people have their preferences, but Filezilla is my FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client of choice. This lets you connect to whatever server you're working with and upload directly.

That takes you to a page that lets you download an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) called "Komodo Edit". It does more than just HTML and CSS. I haven't personally used it as I have the Adobe CS3 suite and use Dreamweaver so if you use it let us know how it is.

Last, but not least, is a site for free CSS templates. I recommend downloading one, learning how it's set up, play with it, break it, change it and it'll help you with the basics.

You can get fairly familiar with it all in a short amount of time, the HTML and CSS at least, but don't expect to be an expert in a couple of weeks.

www.w3schools.com and www.w3.org are two different entities. w3schools is simply a learning resource, where as w3.org is the consortium that sets the standards for the world wide web.

Academia has always been in a world of their own. Unfortunately, they are teaching people who have to live and work in the real one.

Most of the useful stuff I know, was learned post college. C++, PHP, and HTML ,to name a few, didn't even exist back then.
The focus was on Fortran using punch-cards. Sometimes, my pet dinosaur ate my homework cards!

lol Thats very true JRM, academia, especially it seems in the technology we deal with on a daily basis, seems so out of touch with whats current and real world. I was talking with my instructor a few weeks ago about going to a 4 year university to get my BA, and was shocked when he said that I already know much more about web design than I would even hear hints about in this particular college. He has taught at both and was telling me that yes I might have a project to build a single page using notepad, but would never learn what its like to use an ftp client or publish a site on a remote server.

The community college where I went and where he teaches now was really blessed to have him. He was the one that pushed them to purchase a hosting server so that students could actually learn this process. He was the one that pushed the school to actually teach web design in practice not theory.

So I gained quite a bit of working knowledge while still in school, but have learned so much more AFTER school with still a long way to go! lol

Thanks to you all who tried to help me, but i might not be clearly,
i would like you to help me for finding out a topic or a subject in computer science related to web design and programming(for example: online registration,ecommerce,....) to be researhed and developed in order to obtain a degree. thanks again.

Online registration? not sure they have a specialized degree in that?? not even sure what that is. Ecommerce is very big, since 80% of websites sell some product or service, so yes learn ecommerce!

I would also suggest you become familiar with and learn SEO. While this is still a grey area of technology and maybe not considered a real world need, its becoming very real world saturated and SEO experts seem to be in high demand.

Other than that, for a degree in computer science, you're going to learn alot of programming and theoretical applications. If you specifically want to be a web designer, I might suggest you either take some courses in html/css, javascript, php, coldfusion, and ajax at you local community college, or you learn for free on your own time and online.

I would also recommend learning as much as you can about graphics, web graphics and the like.....photoshop, fireworks, and flash, or the equivelant. You will find that some web designers are not that good at the graphics part and some are not that good at the coding part.

Again, most major universities are not going to teach you practical html and or web design.
