Nortons keep scomplaining of vundo trojan and I also noticed a file in my C:\Intel folder called mezenofaz22011.exe that keeps running and i have to kill it through task manager.

I keep getting dialog box popups when I run IE or even Firefox.

I ran vundofix and it killed 4 files. Nortons, Addaware, and Windows defender dont do anything.

Help

Thanks

Download HijackThis from here. Download it to your desktop and NOT a temporary folder.
Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop up giving you the option of where to save it. Save it to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

Here is the output:
Also Nortons is now ALSO complaining about a Adware.ZenoSearch in addition to Vundo.

Viewpoint Manager is considered to be foistware, rather than malware, since it is installed without users approval, but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Please read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest that you remove the program. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
Viewpoint
Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player

==========

Can you disable Windows Defender as it may interfere with the removal process. Please leave it disabled until your PC has been given the all clear.

  • Open Windows Defender
  • Click Tools
  • Click General Settings
  • Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
  • Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
  • After you uncheck this, click on the Save button
  • Close Windows Defender

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
2. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wilkomyt.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

When your done, rescan your system and make sure the following isn't present:

N3 - Netscape ... 5CSBWeb_01.src (or) 5CSBWeb_02.src

If it is, then fix that entry again; sometimes it'll take more than one pass. The actual entry is ok, and won't be deleted, it's the java wrapper marked in red that needs to be removed.

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wilkomyt.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

-

Copy and paste the following bold blue text in the Quote box below into Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: fix.bat to your desktop.
Then double click on the fix.bat file on your desktop
You'll see a black screen flash,thats normal.

@echo off
sc stop DomainService
sc delete DomainService

Restart your PC.

===============

To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
2) Next, "Enable all protection".
3) Exit the program.

-

Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

I have an even bigger problem. I need help!

I fixed the original post but now I have a virus or trojan that has done the following:

1) Taken away my administrative rights. I cannot acces taskmgr, control panel etc...

2) Keeps poping up security alerts that open browser and take me to winantivirus.com

3) I have a yellow warning icon on the tsakbar that wont go away.

After running hijack this I saw thet WinAvxx.exe was on my system so i deleted it.

That didnt help.

I ran nortons, windows defender, adaware i tried everything.

How do I get rid of this and regain my admin rights?

Thanks
Pete

OK I solved the problems

Downloaded 15 day trial of SUPER antispyware and it got rid of all the trojans.

Then I have to modify my registry under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

To turn on control panel and taskmgr etc..

THanks
