I finally have had enough, for the past 1-2 years I've been bearing with this unreliable machine. The problem; When ever I'm playing a game it will randomly freeze up.. simple as that. However the weird thing is this only happens when using a game on the Steam platform (http://www.steampowered.com) with games such as TF2,Counter-Strike, and Audiosurf. Other games that I play at a much more consistent pace (World of Warcraft, Hellgate London, and Frozen Throne) do not experience this problem and never cause a hard system reboot.

The specs are;
Windows XP Pro, SP2. Intel P4 3.00GHz. 1.25GB RAM
Mobility Radeon 9200 (64mb). Main driver: ati2dvag.dll [Version:6.14.00.10.6436] Dated 5/15/2004.

I tried endlessly to find updated drivers but had no luck on the Compaq site or any others, the catalyst drivers from the ATI site would often give me that it does not support my hardware. I finally found out about the Omega drivers (http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati.php) Unfortunately they discontinued support on the newest versions and lead me to version (v3.8.252) which is about 7 updates old. After installing I did notice a difference in features in my games, how ever after about an hour of play I realized it was unstable and caused me to crash during games that I never did and almost always crash when tabbing between games and my desktop.

If anyone can offer some suggestions I'll gladly take them, or even point me to an official Compaq release driver update for my display. I've been searching for so long for a solution, and the Compaq site is nothing but a dead end.

Thanks in advance,
Jon
