Here's the deal. I have a 350 GB SATA that acts as my OS drive, XP. I added an 80 GB IDE drive (from my old PC) on the secondary IDE port on my ASUS M2N4-SLI mother board. When I cold boot neither the BIOS not XP recognize that the IDE drive is there. When I warm boot the IDE drive shows up and works fine. I do have the IDE jumpered as master. The BIOS is set to automatically detect the HDDs.

Any ideas?

check out your IDE cable, i think problem is in it.

It wasn't the IDE cable. I removed the jumper so that the IDE drive was not master. Now it boots faster and the IDE drive is there on cold boot as well as warm.
