I have a gateway laptop and it runs VERY hot and loud. Recently it has been overheating and will turn off completely. I have a cooling fan under it, this doesn't help at all. Usually happens when I am taking up a lot of memory running a high usage program. What can I do to cool it down?

3.1 ghz pentium 4
radeon 9600 pro

Have you tried blowing it out? Accumulated dust and pet hairs can impede the air flow. Dust can collect of the CPU heat sink and clog air vents all of which can cause overheating.
