safebait.exe virus??

My son's computer is having problems. He gets annoying pop ups while browsing. At startup; iexplore.exe is running (taskbar) 2 to 3 copies without Internet Explorer being opened. When I end program, safebait.exe opens in its place and dissappears and another copy of iexplore.exe comes back. Also, at startup McAfee Security Center, always comes up with computer not protected and needs to fix. It fixes the problem and is protected, but the annoying problem persists. He plays a lot of online games. It's his computer and used for nothing else but games.
At shutdown iexplore.exe end program window comes up and can't end so you have to click end now.

I have uninstalled IE and installed Firefox and the pop ups still appear as a IE browser pop up.
I have been to several blogs and help sites with no help. I have run virus scans and Adaware and found nothing. The only thing that did find some thing was NOLOP.

I ran HijackThis and NOLOP and log files below. Please help.. :confused:

This is a real nasty one. I got impatient and had a go at it. :) I think I solved the problem, actually I know I did.. lol

When this whole thing started it was from a toolbar, Mirar. It added itself to IE add ons. I disabled the toolbar and even uninstalled IE. I didn't know that it would go back to IE 6 which the computer came with. I disabled IE through add/remove window components through add/remove programs. It didn't stop this nasty. Pop ups still appeared, and CPU memory going crazy, fan blazing.. you get the idea.
I noticed that iexplore.exe running in many instances in the Windows Task Manager. Every time I would close one safebaite.exe would appear and then gone before you could click on it, another iexplore.exe would appear. This happened while Internet Explorer browser was NOT open. Using FireFox didn't help pop ups still happened while browsing.
While infected you cannot use system restore to restore to a previous date. Windows Update will not install, even though you have updates waiting to install. At start up McAfee Security Center/ Firewall will say not protected. Asking you to fix everytime you start windows. At shutdown iexplore.exe can not end program, until you click end now.

The Fix: I ran NOLOP and it found a task (see previous post) and removed it no problems. I ran HijackThis I got impatient waiting for a reply to post, so I preceded a careful delete process. Well, just the obvious.
I deleted:

Next I restarted windows in Safe Mode. I deleted all temp files c:/windows/temp and did a search for *.tmp files nothing came up.
I deleted windows/Prefetch/.. everything in folder.
I went through program files searching for any thing that might not belong. Deleted a folder surf ping less.
I ran AVG Anti-spyware, prevously did a scan and it didn't pick anything up.
It found :
C:\system volume information\_restore{bunch of numbers}\####\###.dll NOT-A Virus.Adware.Mirar
C:\system volume information\_restore{bunch of numbers}\###\### Not-A-Virus.adware.agent (listed 3 times)
same directory- Trojan.lmir.ayr
same directory- Hijacker.small

I ran Disk Cleanup, removed all temp internet files from IE and FireFox. Crossed my fingers and re-booted. All went well, I updated windows with critical and non, reinstalled IE-7 and more updates after that.
