sorry, looks like everything was on,
forgot I rebooted
wanted to get it before it would disappear

Crunchie, this is my guess. How close am I?
Joal, please wait for Crunchie or another expert to confirm this before proceeding.

This entry: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VVSN] C:\PROGRAM FILES\VVSN\VVSN.EXE
appears to be malware.
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/VVSN/
Check the box next to it, reboot in safe mode by pressing f8 during booting, and delete the folder VVSN in your program files.

DaveSW got it :).

Thanks, checked out the site, concerning the VVSN adware, will wait for Crunchie to confirm
joal

Crunchie did confirm it (post #36). How is your computer running now? Still having problems? If so, please post another log along with a description.

Thanks I deleted it, still having freezing problems, yet I get a warning that I do not have enough space, or too many programs running. I don't get this, as I should have enough memory.
like to know what is the.....09 extra button real.com

real.com is the real media player. The only thing that looks odd to me now is the ????????? in the 04 washindex entries. Usualy it displays the user name.

I don't get this, as I should have enough memory.

How much RAM do you have? Also, how much free space do you have on your hard drive?

You still have O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VVSN] C:\PROGRAM FILES\VVSN\VVSN.EXE on your system.

To be honest, i consider AOL a virus :P
*writes off to Sophos, Mcaffe and Symantec*

" Dear sir, AOL is Eeeeeeeeevil software..."

I checked O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VVSN] C:\PROGRAM FILES\VVSN\VVSN.EXE and then fix, looks like it reinstated itself.
AOL is cr.p , I agree, next year plan to buy another computer , and ask which way to go for internet connection, browser etc. but need to finish this job first for the pay, [researcher].[also what to buy all around]
I am a beginner as far as dealing with computers, but it seems to me that this scumware can rewrite itself, I noticed the question marks with the washer.
Thanks all, would like to post computer capacity here.
Thanks all, Joal

Did you delete VVSN while in Safe Mode as instructed in post #35?

As you thought, you should have enough free space available and sufficient RAM for Win98. Maybe that VVSN is causing the problem.

Thanks yes, it shouldn't be here, my firewall log shows many hits a day, also virus hits.
I think something is still there,

I want to thank everyone for their help.
I uninstalled all of aol , and found old files that were redundant, no surprise. I did reinstall it, but it is running smoothly for now.
If anyone reads this, would you direct me to a section on the forum where I can ask about alternatives to microsoft, different browers and internet servers?

General opinion-type questions such as "what browser would you guys recommend using instead of Internet Explorer?" should really be posted in the Geeks Lounge, because the technical areas of the forum are more meant for getting help with specific technical problems. For browsers, if you've already installed a browser other than Internet Explorer and have questions or problems with it, the Windows Software forum is probably the most appropriate place to post.

In terms of non-Microsoft solutions for operating systems or networking/server software, you'll probably get more responses from members experienced in those areas if you post any questions you might have in the Linux/UNIX, Mac, and Networking forums (despite what I just said above regarding the Geeks Lounge).

Here is one thread discussing browsers:
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread9561-best+browser.html

There are others if you do a search for them. I've read several of them and the consesus seems to be Mozilla as the primary browser, with Internet Explorer also installed as a backup because some sites won't work with Mozilla, and you can't get Windows Updates if you don't have I.E.

That's great, thanks much the info provides a good start. I went to use the CWShredder and found another button applied somehow??? It took me to a free download of SpySubtract, which, is now owned by Intermute , who bought the CWShredder. It found a load of malware that had been hiding in files, registry keys, etc. that wasn't being detected.
That was found on a quick search. I am not sure what is thought about it, but it sems to be a simple tool for beginners.
later in another place

Hi!

I´m wondering if anyone can help me ?, I´ve got the same problem
on my computer (windows XP)

I get the error message and after that I can just click OK and the
computer seems to be (?) fine after that.

Best regards

Hi jonas1234,

First of all- welcome to TechTalk!

Secondly though, we do ask that members not tag their questions on to a thread previously started by another member (regardless of how similar your problem might seem). Not only does it divert the focus of the thread away from the original poster's problem, but it also makes it less likely that you yourself will get the individual attention that you need.

Please start your own thread and post your question there. When you do, please try to give us as much specific info as possible regarding the problem (exact error messages, system specs, etc.).

For a full description of our posting guidelines and general rules of conduct, please see this page:
