I'm not really sure what the problem is, but here is what happens: Popups sometimes, anything from adult sites to university.com to other random sites. Also cannot load a lot of sites, facebook and myspace for example, and I can load google but can't search. Once and awhile the taskbar disappears for a minute and comes back.

I researched a bit and tried to fix it based on problems that sounded similar. I used SUPERAntiSpyware, VundoFix, and Ccleaner to try and get rid of it, and when I scanned using Norton and Spyware Doctor afterwards they didn't detect anything, but I still had problems.

I really don't know what else to do, so any help would be much appreciated. I don't know if a HiJackThis log would help at all but I'll post it. Thanks for your help!

Hi and welcome to the Daniweb forums :).

==========

You only posted half the log. Please post the entire log in your next reply.

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Make sure that you restart the computer.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

Post new HJT log.

Thanks. And my bad, here's the HiJackThis Log, this should be the full thing:

Thanks a lot for your help.

Please run malwarebytes antimalware again but this time follow my instructions for running it correctly. If you did run it correctly, you must have posted the wrong log as it shows that you did not remove the selected entries.

Oh yeah I guess I posted the wrong thing, but I did make sure they were all selected and removed. I scanned again to make sure and it said 0 objects infected now. Is there anything else I should do, like should I do anything with HJT or am I probably ok now? I can load sites again and my computer is much faster now.

Can you please do the following.

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following, if present:

Viewpoint Manager

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://www.dell4me.com/myway

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {855F3B16-6D32-4fe6-8A56-BBB695989046} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: {a7bc4af0-b6f3-219a-8924-72584397124a} - {a4217934-8527-4298-a912-3f6b0fa4cb7a} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\wowoxx.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {bb2ce441-7339-4b02-94cb-a7d0d36f5531} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\iyeuvtxk.dll (file missing)

O4 - Global Startup: Wireless USB 2.0 WLAN Card Utility.lnk = ?

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: qxmrmnbg.dll

O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

Search for...

qxmrmnbg.dll

...using "Start | Search...".

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

Alright I deleted everything you told me except a couple files that I didn't find. My computer is working pretty well now, except when I restarted it, it went to the blue screen that says it needs repair or something the first two times I turned it on, but now it is working well. Here is the new HJT log:

Might want to consider pruning your P2P programs as there is a good chance the infection came in through one of them.

Congratulations! Your log looks clean.

===============

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

Download CCleaner and install, then run it. It will clear out your temp folders.

  1. Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
  2. Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.
  3. Close when finished.

====

An alternative to Ccleaner is ATF Cleaner.
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main choose:
Windows Temp
Current User Temp
All Users Temp
Cookies
Temporary Internet Files
Prefetch
Java Cache

*The other boxes are optional*
Then click the Empty Selected button.

Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

Opera:
Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

====

Use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera, which in my opinion, is better still.

====

Use a firewall. It is an essential part of your computers security. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

====

Install and keep updated,
Spybot S&D.
Run it on a regular basis, following the maker's recommendations.

====

Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

====

Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

=====

For XP users.
After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start | Run and type msconfig and press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

Note that all previous restore points will be lost.

===============

If you have any more problems, post back.
