URGENT~ norton 360 auto protect won't turn on, comp slow..
i recently removed some viruses (Trojans) and some malware
(crazy stuff.. had virus alert!! written everywhere, changed my bg, had everything into links to some sites, etc --- now its gone)
i scanned my comp with my norton 360, panda security activescan 2.0 (online), and the systematec online scan

but my norton 360 autoprotect will not turn on even after i pressed the "fix" button which is supposed to turn the damn thing on

i suspect i still have some malware/viruses

also my comp is really slow.. CPU usage jumping to 75% ..

Hi, please note that you have the P2P client : Azureus installed on your computer.
Installing a P2P is inviting trouble, therefore, I recommend that you uninstall it immediately.
However, if you do wish to keep it, please refrain from using it until further notice.

I would account your computer to be slow due to MSSQL and Norton 360 being installed on your computer. I would also like to have your computer configuration and a description of how your computer is behaving now.

Please include a new HijackThis log.

some spikes in cpu usage still
before all this my norton 360 autoprotect magically turned itself on

Hi, are you able to turn on N360 now?

Please download Deckard's System Scanner from Tech Support Forum and save it to your desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

  • Save all your work and close all opened programs.
  • Double click on dss.exe to run it. Follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two log files will be produced. The first one, main.txt, will be maximized, the second one, extra.txt, will be minimized.
  • Please post the contents of the 2 log files in your next reply. 1 log per reply please.

download to DSS.exe wasn't working
so i got it from a reliable-looking site
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=19

when i ran dss.exe, it only gave me main.txt... nothing else, nothing minimized

yea im able to get
norton 360's auto protect on

i also want to note out that my internet browser (firefox) is showing some issues on alot of webpages and it takes more time to load the pages
example this thread:
http://i36.tinypic.com/33mn08x.jpg

this doesn't happen to my bro's comp, who shares the same internet as me

and i still get those random cpu usage spikes and fps drops in games.. :/

Hi, thanks for the information, I'll get back to that in a jiffy.

You seem to have already been disinfected by somebody in the past.
Please remove the following folders :

Spy Cleaner Gold from C:\Program Files

VundoFix Backups from C:\

Spy Cleaner Gold from C:\Program Files

Please re-open HijackTHis and click Do a system scan only and locate the following lines and place a check against then :

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto
O16 - DPF: {723F094A-89E0-4822-ACA5-9BCBC1B6D206} (SabisungUploader.UploaderControl) - http://www.rth.co.kr/SABISUNGUploader.cab
O16 - DPF: {A90A5822-F108-45AD-8482-9BC8B12DD539} (Crucial cpcScan) - http://www.crucial.com/controls/cpcScanner.cab

Close all other open windows and click, Fix Checked.

You also need to update the version of Java in your computer :

  • Uninstall the current version of Java from your computer and please download and install the latest version of Java from here

Now as far as the speed concerns, this may depend on your usage.
If suppose your brother is using the internet the same time you are, then the total bandwidth is shared and is not utilised properly.

CPU spikes may be because of your computer configuration, if for example, you are running on low specs. and running applications which require higher specs, then there are chances of CPU spikes.

You seem to have already been disinfected by somebody in the past.

i try ;)

about my cpu problems
i never had problems with it before
getting that virus ii tried to fix. That was 3 days ago. After disinfecting and installing N360, my comp became really slow.
I already checked for ventilation and dust problems.
I'm trying to play a 10 year old game on my 2.8ghz Pentium D comp equipped with a x800 ati graphics card... should blow it away easily... it has before

looking at the taskmanager, the "system" process use up 15+% of the CPU causing my whole comp to run at constant 20% CPU usage... which didn't happen before

and about the internet speed
my bro isn't even on the internet right now - comp off... and gmail will not load properly... again before the virus all this worked

Ok, first off, you should not just download tools of the internet and run it on your system.
Second, I'm expecting the process hike because of N360 being installed.
Norton Antiviruses are known for heavy RAM and CPU usage.

Download CCleaner from here

  • Double click on the ccsetup.exe file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location.
  • Under Install Options, choose all the default settings except I would recommend that you unclick/untick install the Yahoo! Toolbar, unless you want it. You can also Uncheck the 'Automatically check for updates' box.
  • Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the Windows tab, under Internet Explorer uncheck Cookies if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the Options icon at the left side of the window, then click on Advanced.
Uncheck 'Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours'.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items. Click on Issues and make sure Registry Integrity is UNCHECKED!
  • Click on the Cleaner icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

Ok, now that's a problem which I cannot solve. Are you on 56k?
This could be a problem with your internet speed. I don't think it's got anything to do with malware.

What about everything else? Are you able to view this thread with no problems?

im on Comcast CABLE
it NEVER happened before... till my virus/malware problems which i solved already

im looking into bitdefender total security 2008. is it good? is it better than N360? any problems in it?

Actually, I would recommend using Kaspersky or Avira as they have the highest hits on malware.
Kaspersky is a paid one, but it's one of the best and has a 30-day trial period.

so basically my N360 is hogging all the cpu/mem
ill try the Avira antivirus

thank you for helping me
