Hijackthis log.. clean for the most part

Ok, for the most part, I believe my log is pretty clean. I checked out the "before you post" by Crunchie, and I have a firewall (Zonealarm), anti-virus (Norton), and I have these for anti-spy:Hijackthis, Yahoo, and I recently deleted one (forgot name). One thing that bugs me is when I scan with Yahoo Anti-spy, a BHO called "Booked Space" comes up. I can't seem to get rid of it. I also know salm.exe is some sort of spyware, but I'm not sure what all to get rid of. Can someone help me? Many thanks. :D

For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders:

Local Settings\Temp
Cookies
History
Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Windows\Temp folder
Delete the entire contents of your C:\temp folder (this should fix your salm.exe problem)

Do a search for *.tmp and delete everything found

Empty the Recycle Bin

Go to Add/Remove Programs in your Control Panel and see if you have Web Rebates; if so, remove it.

Whenever you scan with HJT, make sure all browser windows are closed. Scan with HJT and have it fix the following entries:

You also need to go to Windows Update and get the Critical Updates for you system. Hold off on SP2 though until your system is clean.

After you've done all that, close all browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log. :)

You don't necessarily have to go through the suggestions in sequence, if you run into a problem with one thing, go ahead and try to do the rest. Do as Caperjack suggested and try cleaning the temp folders while in Safe Mode. Whether it works or not, you can still fix the stuff noted in your HJT log. And you still need to get the Critical Windows Updates (except for SP2, for now).

Ok i was going through your list, and i got a couple of problems... in my C:\windows\temp folder there is a file called "zlt01427.tmp" that i cant get rid of... i got a message saying its being used by another person... then i went to my C:\temp folder... found the salm stuff (it looks like a program, a text document, a couple dat files <salm_gdf, salm_kyf, and salmau>, and another file with a gearbox kinda icon called "salmhook.dll), but it will not let me delete the files (got an access denied message). I then did the *.tmp search and I tried deleting a bunch of empty folders, but all I got was a cannot read file or disk message :mad: darn computers. I dont want to go any further until I know what to do with this stuff, so i dont mess anything up hehe... thanks for your help!!
Oh P.S. I have tried to DL the SP2 at one time, but all it did was make my computer freeze up.

ok all done... the only thing i still have problems with is "zlt01427.tmp". I got everything else to delete in the regular windows mode, then I went into safe mode to see if i could get the ztl file, but it wasnt there. also, i went to dl the critical update, but it says all i need is the sp2. i did happen to find an ie6 sp1, but not sure if i need it. anyways, heres the new log :) thank you sooooo much dlh and caper!!

That scan looks like it was done in Safe Mode. Have HJT fix this:

Then post another log from normal mode with all browser windows closed. Are you still having a problem?

You need to at least get SP1 for XP and for IE, I don't know why you would have gotten a message saying you only need SP2. But, it should be okay for you to get SP2 now -- have a look at this thread before making a decision:

Also, SpywareBlaster and/or SpywareGaurd will help protect your system. Update them and have them enable all protection.

Ok, sorry about that. I end a lot of processes when I first start my computer, and forgot to leave them on for the scan. My computer is running better than what it was!! The CPU still shoots up to 100% quite a bit, but I'm not too concerned about it anymore. I tried looking for the critical updates again, but the microsoft site and the update manager on my computer tell me I only need the sp2. I'll download that next. Here is my log... Thanks again!!!

Glad to hear it! :) The reason it probably messed up before is because your computer was messed up. SP2 has a tendency to magnify problems if they exist, that's why I suggested you get it cleaned up before upgrading.

To help keep your computer somewhat safer, you should get SpywareBlaster and/or SpywareGuard (links to both are in this thread: http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread5690.html). As with all other protection measures, keep them updated!
