I have tried everything I can think of (Spybot, Adaware, Pest Patrol) and nothing works. I ran the HiJackThis program and located the file I wanted to delete. The problem is that it is not deleting. I am probably doing something incorrectly, but anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. The file in question is RO-HKCU\ Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main Start Page= HTTP:// win-eto.com of the below log. Again, thanks in advance!!!!

One or two of those may be genuine but they all look highly suspicious to me.

This takes a specialised fix, so please do the following;

Could you disable Symantec for now and go here to download the free version of Grisoft's AVG AntiVirus program.

Install the program, check for updates and scan your system allowing it to remove whatever it finds.

AVG is known to find and fix the bad files related to this infection.

Download the Pocket KillBox
Unzip the file to your desktop.
Open TheKillbox.

Select the Delete on reboot option.

In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the 'Delete File' button (red circle with a white X) after pasting:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe

It will prompt you to reboot, press the NO button. Instead, copy and paste the following and click the 'Delete File' button again:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: ikxnxh46m7lejkdll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

Then repeat for these files also:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\7KGVWS~1.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ulg0gp8vrh7jthd.exe

After the last file, when it prompts for a reboot, do so.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Reboot and post another log please.

Crunchie,

I completed all the steps you outlined in your reply. Thank you for the help!!!! I am going nuts with this problem. After scanning with the AVG anti-virus software you recommended I found 22 trojan horse virus' and was able to remove 20 of the 22. What do I do about the other two? Also, some of the items you selected for me to mark "fix" in HiJackThis were no longer there after using kill box (or maybe they were deleted in a previous hijack session). Where do I go from here? My home page is still not opening under the old default, although I have not tried to reset it yet (I will after this post). Here is a new log for you to view. Again, thanks a million....this stuff is WAY over my head.

sorry im not crunchie but i thought you ahould now that you need to unzip hijackthis to a directory on your hard drive. Hijack this does not work when you run it out of a temp directory.
also you should delete these with hijackthis

make sure you always have some sort of back up when tampering with your registry . either a system restore point or the hijack this backups.

to get rid of the other two trojans
1. find out the path that they are located at and write it down
2 check if any of your other programs are infected with it (in this case seek alternate directions)
4. boot into safe mode (F8 while rebooting)
5 delete the two files that you wrte down
