Ok, I contracted the FakeAlert virus from an unsecure wifi network the other day. I'm concerned because no matter what I do I cannot get rid of it. I'm working on a Dell Vostro 1400. The virus blocks certain help sites to eliminate it in addition to rarely booting up successfully. The computer also restarts randomly due to an error with the services and controller app. Thanks so much for any help you can give me. Here's the log.

Can you pls do the following:

1. - Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button) to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Make sure that you restart the computer.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

2. –Pls Run HJT again and post the log.

In your reply, post the logs (in this order):
1. - Malware Bytes Log
2. - Hijackthis Log

Thanks,

Cohen

Please try the following routine given in the MBA-M forum to see if you can get Malwarebytes to run.

* Click on Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc and click OK
* On the View menu click on Show hidden devices
* Browse to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and you should see something like TDSSserv.sys
* Highlight that driver and right click on it and select DISABLE
* Now RESTART your computer.
* Download a copy of Malwarebytes but DO NOT run it yet.
* Rename the downloaded installer file to any generic name such as your own name but keep the .EXE extension on the file and run it.
* Once the program is installed go to the UPDATE tab and try to update the program if you can.
* Then go to the SCANNER tab and run a Full System and allow MBAM to Remove anything found.
Save the log where you can find it.
Reboot the computer.
Run a new HJT scan, save the log. Post back with both logs.

Looks pretty good.
Here are some fixes you now need to do with HJT.
Run the program again, full system scan again and place check marks next to the following entries:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MP10_EnsureFileVer] C:\WINDOWS\inf\unregmp2.exe /EnsureFileVersions
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [ ] C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe /C del /Q C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdssrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdshost.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\hdfkt.dll
O7 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System, DisableRegedit=1
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\PROGRA~1\Google\GOOGLE~2\GOEC62~1.DLL axrdkx.dll ydquok.dll jfnxon.dll bwotpw.dll ylpjkh.dll lbdtam.dll
O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

After you have placed those check marks then click the Fix Checked button
Exit HJT
Reboot the system.
Run a new HJT full system scan and save the log and post back here.
Judy

Here's the log after I selected those items. I also was getting a blue screen of death prompted by a services and apps error.. Will that go away? In any case, thank yall so much I really appreciate it.

Have you been getting these errors all along or just since you ran MBA-M? This is key info. Give me the EXACT wording of these errors and what application did they refer to?
Also what information do you get when you get the BSOD's?

Alright, bare with me, i'll post some further instructions.

Cohen

Alright,

Can you pls do the following, reading the instructions, very carefully!

====================

Pls run HJT and select System Scan only and mark a check next to the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NVHotkey] rundll32.exe nvHotkey.dll,Start
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [ ] C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmd.exe /C del /Q C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdssrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdshost.dll C:\WINDOWS\system32\hdfkt.dll
O4 - Global Startup: Dell Network Assistant.lnk = ?

Then, Click Fix Checked
Reboot your computer

=================

OK, now we need to Remove Viewpoint manager.

Go into Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs > and remove Viewpoint Manager.

Once that is done, reboot your Computer

============

Run HJT again, and do a scan, save the log and post it in a reply.

Also, can you give me a report on how your computer is going :)

Thanks,

Cohen

My computer is running much much better. I get no more pop-ups, and certain sites like bleepingcomputer aren't blocked anymore. ONly problem is that services and apps error, but we'll see how that goes. Anyway, I did everything that you specified and here's the log. Thank you all SO MUCH again.

Oh, also there was no viewpoint manager in add/remove programs. There was a viewpoint media player so I deleted that. Is that what you meant? Thanks, again.

Alright thank you. The error still is occurring and says that serrvices.exe terminated unexpectedly, any advice for that?

Alright thank you. The error still is occurring and says that serrvices.exe terminated unexpectedly, any advice for that?

No, sorry. :-/ :S :$ :(

Cohen

use your EVENT VIEWER to see what has failed.

Are you using a router? Wireless connection? what?

Ok, rmcg34 after going through your combofix log again and your HJT logs I conferred with crunchie and we feel there are some repairs that need to be done using combofix.
* Make sure that combofix.exe on your Desktop but Do not run it!
o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
