My problem started off much like the one in this thread:

http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread144432.html

The symptoms of that problem now appear to be resolved...but I assume there is still a bit more cleaning up left to do.

The problem started when I could not start Firefox or IE. Every time I tried to start IE, it closed on me automatically. When I tried to start FF, I got the same error message as in the thread I just linked to. That is:

"The procedure entry point SetupDiDestroyDeviceInfoList could not be located in the dynamic link library SETUPAPI.dll."

I began by following gerbil's advice.

I ran a full system scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and deleted everything it found. I've posted the log below.

After that, I ccleader, as gerbil suggested.

Now my IE and FF appear to be working without issue (knock on wood). I'd very much appreciate it, though, if somebody here could look through my MBAM log, as well as my Hijack This log, posted below. In the thread I linked to above, there was still quite a bit of work left to do. Looking forward to any advice on where to go from here...

  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
  • Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:
  • http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

==

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: qlyofj.dll

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

Search for...

qlyofj.dll

...using "Start | Search...".

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

Thank you so much for your help thus far!

My computer appears to be running normally.

I did everything you asked. I was not, however, able to find any instances of the

qlyofj.dll

file that you mentioned (I did search all system and hidden files/folders, like you asked).

Here is the most recent Hijack this log:
