Hi,

Trying to clean up my machine, I've already ran Spybot, AdAware and HJT and got rid of lots of stuff but there's a few things which just keep coming back. IE keeps opening with the following URL

http://67.15.70.15/~black/f***porn.html

and there's several processes which I haven't been able to remove. As soon as I connect to the internet they start coming back. Can one of you guys help me out?

Hi. First of all you need to update hijackthis to version 1.99.1. Run hijackthis & go to *Config\Misc Tools\Check for update on-line*. If the site is down, go here. Remove the old version by opening the program, going to config\misc tools, then uninstall & exit. You then have to delete the file manually. Unzip the new version into the hijackthis folder.

Go to add remove programs and unoinstall any and all of the following, if there;
AdTools Service
BullsEye Network
Preview AdService
Web_Rebates
wstcl.exe

Run Hijackthis and go to the process viewer by going to Config, Misc Tools, Process Viewer, to unload all instances of the following running processes;
AdTools.exe
bargains.exe
PrevAdServ.exe
PrevAdKeep.exe
AdToolsKeep.exe
sais.exe
GMx.exe

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Once fixed go to Misc Tools in hijackthis and select delete an NT service.
Paste the following one at a time;
Microsoft Update
ZESOFT

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here and navigate to and delete the following if found:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wsctl.exe<----file
C:\WINDOWS\vmlmd.exe<----file
C:\GMx.exe<----file
C:\WINDOWS\zeta.exe<----file

C:\Program Files\Preview AdService<----folder

C:\Program Files\BullsEye Network<-----folder
c:\program files\180solutions<----folder
C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates<----folder
C:\DOCUME~1\Admin\LOCALS~1\Temp<----folder contents

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Reboot normally after doing the above, rescan with hijackthis, then post that log here please.

Hi,

Thanks for all that. Followed your instructions, couldn't stop all the processes as you'll see, wstcl.exe is still going for example, quite a few seem to have gone though. Every time I go online things start getting worse, happened last night while I was on this forum, so I'll stay offline till I'm clean. Log follows, thanks again.

Go into your Services and stop the following service: Microsoft Update then set it to disabled.

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Download the Pocket KillBox
Unzip the file to your desktop.
Run Pocket Killbox and paste the full file path of each of the below files in the box and click on Standard File Kill and End Explorer Shell While Killing File. Click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle after you enter each file (see the files below).

C:\WINDOWS\System32\wsctl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svchst.exe
C:\WINDOWS\koahyrbj.exe

Reboot afterwards if the files are successfully deleted.

If all files are not deleted, do not reboot yet. Run Pocket Killbox again and paste the full file path in the box and click on Delete on Reboot. Next click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle. You will get a message saying "File with be deleted on next reboot, Process and Reboot now?" Click "Yes" to reboot only after the last file you enter.

Post another log please.

Hi,

Ok, done all that. In order...

Microsoft Update was already stopped so I just disabled it.

Did the HJT Fix Checked stuff with browser and explorer windows closed.

Got Pocket Killbox, C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsctl.exe was found and deleted, the other 2 weren't found so I did the Delete on Reboot thing. It hadn't rebooted automatically after 15 mins so I rebooted manually.

New HJT log

I will reply later. Am leaving for work now. :)

No probs. I'm checking this forum from work now, like I said, don't want to connect again till I'm clean. I'll try and have another look tomorrow, I'm only down the road.

Thanks

Sorry for the delay. I had some ISP problems.
Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to here.

Run a system search for this file; wsctl.exe and post all instances of it with the full path to it.

Hi,

2 found -

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wstcl
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\WSTCL.EXE-1C0358B7.pf

Is this the last one do you reckon, still running v slow.

Thanks

We got rid of one, but there was a duplicate by the looks.
Go to C:\WINDOWS and delete the contents of the Prefetch folder.

Run Pocket Killbox again and paste the full file path of the below file in the box and click on Standard File Kill and End Explorer Shell While Killing File. Click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle after you enter the file.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wstcl

Reboot afterwards if the file is successfully deleted.

If not deleted, do not reboot yet.

Do another search and post the results. Post another silent runners log and an hijackthis log please.

Hi,

Ran Pocket Killbox, it didn't find the file the first time so I tried Delete on Reboot. After I pressed the red cross and Yes, Yes, it came up with Verifying Registry Entries for a few seconds then I got the following message.

PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Access

Waited for it to reboot on it's own but no go so I did it manually.

Search results - don't know if I'm confusing you over the filenames but there's wstcl and wsctl, which is the bad one?

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsctl

C:!Submit\wstcl

Hi,

Not had much luck.

Stopped the running process.

When I tried to disable in command prompt it said the windows update service was not started.

Removed the registry entries.

Couldn't get Housecall to scan - it said my operating system was ok but the three Java checks all said Detecting... and had a red cross next to each. Don't know if it's cos everything is running so slow but I allowed plenty of time. Seemed like it hadn't finished cos it didn't say you need to download xxxxxxx but like I say I allowed ages for it to finish.

New logs - if they're any use - or is it time to System Restore? Ad Aware and Spybot still say clear by the way.

Looks like there are only registry entries left.
Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows, and hit the "Fix checked" button.

Should be ok then. Repost the logs if you are not sure :).

I hope so. I scanned with HJT and found and killed 4 of the 5, rebooted in Safe Mode and found and killed the other one.

New logs, normal and safe

Still running extremely slow though, was going to put a screen shot of task Manager showing performance but I couldn't upload the image, it was averaging 50% with nothing but that running.

Do you reckon I'm clean now then?

Thanks

...and is there a thread How to stay clean somewhere, couldn't find one.

Cheers

The logs look all clear now. What was taking up the processes in task manager?

Check out the link in my Signature regarding how you got infected.

Can you tell me how to upload an image, I'll post the Task Manager screen, too many to list. I've seen the Add image button but i just get "Enter the text to be formatted"?

Thanks for the link, knew I'd seen it somewhere.

Post as an attachment :).

Thanks, didn't see that down there. Not as bad now as it was earlier, Performance pic is after removing those 5 registry entries, Task Manager Processes is now.

Cheers

Looks like it is the system idle that is taking up the cpu time. Normal when you are doing nothing else on your PC :D.

Ok, suppose I've not tried to do anything on it for weeks, maybe I'm just assuming it's still slow cos of what Task Manager said. I'll consider myself clean and stop looking at Task Manager every 2 minutes!

Thanks a lot for your help with this.
