The first thing you need to do is go to Windows Update and get the Critical Updates for your system (SP1a, hold off on SP2, at least until your system gets cleaned up).

The second thing you should do is move hijackthis into it's own folder before fixing anything with it. You can do this by right-clicking in an open area of your desktop, select New, Folder; give the new folder a name (something like HJT or HijackThis would be good), and then drag the hijackthis.exe icon that is on your desktop into this new folder.

After you've done that, close all browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log please.

Here is the new HJT log file.

Thanks for taking you time!

Still need the Windows Updates

For every User listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (not the folders themselves):

Local Settings\Temp
Cookies
History
Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Temp folder (if you have one).

Do a search for *.tmp and delete all entries found.

(Note: if any of these temporary files cannot be deleted while in ‘normal mode,’ try Safe Mode.

Empty your Recycle Bin.

Scan with HJT and post a new log please.

As dlh6213 stated,

Please go here & install ALL critical updates required for your system, including service pack 1a for both XP and IE6.
Most malware is designed to attack unpatched XP systems - exploiting the available 'holes' - and can bypass third-party protection on an unpatched system. The most that can be done with an unpatched system is put a temporary bandage on it. your system can potentially be reinfected within minutes of cleaning it.

Yes I know that with updates and after that we have cleand the computer it will be updated. Now its disconected from the net utile everything is done.

I have followed your instructions, have done it under "safe mode" and hade 3 problemas,
C:\Documents and Settings\test\Cookies
INDEX NEROMEDIAPLAYER MEDIA FILES 48 K
ERROR WHEN DELETE CANNOT DELETE INDEX.

C:\Documents and Settings\a\Cookies
INDEX DAT FILE 16 KB
ERROR WHEN DELETE CANNOT DELETE INDEX.

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Cookies
INDEX DAT FILE 16 KB
ERROR WHEN DELETE CANNOT DELETE INDEX.

Is there anything to do or....?

Here is the HJT log file:

Thanks!

Paul

HijackThis is still being run directly from your desktop (C:\Documents and Settings\a\Desktop\HijackThis.exe); please right-clicking in an open area of your desktop, select New, Folder; give the new folder a name (something like HJT or HijackThis would be good), and then drag the hijackthis.exe icon that is on your desktop into this new folder. After you've moved it, your log should show it as "C:\Documents and Settings\a\Desktop\HJT\HijackThis.exe" (HJT being whatever name you gave the folder).

You can go ahead and have HJT fix these entries, but you shouldn't go any further until we have established that HJT is in it's own folder:

Do you have this set as your start page? http://login1.telia.com

Scan with HJT and have it fix the following entries:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://rl.webtracer.cc/-/?bayzm
O1 - Hosts: 1159680172 auto.search.msn.com
O19 - User stylesheet: C:\WINDOWS\stsheets.dat

Be sure all windows, other then hijackthis, are closed before hitting the Fix button.

Go to C:\WINDOWS and delete stsheets.dat

Reboot, scan with HJT, and post a new log please.

Dear Moderator,

Yes login1.telia.com is my start page. Telia is our stat owned telecom operator, good or bad has been discussed – it works so that’s Ok with me.

I did the work in safe mode and let HJT fix the entries that you had marked. Deleted file stsheets.dat and emty recycling bin. For a few seconds I had a felling finely it gone. Reboot the computer into “normal mode and scan. You see by your self that the result was not direct a success.

What shall I do now?

Regards

Paul

Go to:
http://www.silentrunners.org/
Download and run Silent Runners.vbs. It generates a log, please post the information back in this thread.

Also, Download CWShredder 2.14 from here. Run it and press the *fix,* not scan and allow it to clean the infection. Close all browser and explorer windows before hitting the fix button.

To help prevent this from happening again, install the patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits by going here for your critical updates, including service pack 1 for both XP and IE6.

Reboot after doing this & post another log please.

Dear Moderator,

I just want to inform you that the computer is not connected to the net. I have take out the plug so it’s not possibly to get it infected from outside. Everything that happens, happens inside the computer and that is what I want to clean up before upgrading. Communication with you is done by my laptop and the files that I transport between this computer and the infected one is done with a USB stick. The USD stick is scanned by SpySubtract pro 2.6 before moving the files into the infected computer and the same is done the other way around.

I will download according to your and crunches instruction and after words I place a log file here.

That will be done around 8PM ECT.

Best regards

Paul

Dear Moderators,

First I run the silentrunner an below you se the log file.
Next was to run the CWS and this software did not find anything, next log is log from CWS. The last log is from HJT and is done in “normal mode the other 2 is under “safe mode.

Waiting for your next instructions.

Paul

Sorry for the delay, I've been trying to find what's causing the problem to return. Try this:

Download Hoster from here:
http://www.funkytoad.com/download/hoster.zip

Run it, and when it opens, click on the Restore Original Hosts button and then exit Hoster.

Scan with HJT and have it fix the following entries (if found):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://rl.webtracer.cc/-/?bayzm
O1 - Hosts: 1159680172 auto.search.msn.com

Remember to close any open windows before hitting the Fix button.

Reboot, close any open browser windows, scan with HJT, and post another new log please. You may need to reset your start page to telia.

Also, silent runners should have been run in normal mode.

I am sorry to say, bad luck!

The skit is back like a night mosquito never gives up.

Next step is to format C: or?

Waiting for new instructions.

Paul

The logfile after runing hoster and HJT in safe mode. logfile is from normal mode. You will also find a new logfile fron silentrunner in normal mode.

I realy hope that you two can find a way of cleaning up this skit, because there should be...

Still in Safe Mode, close all programs, scan with hijackthis, and have it fix the following entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://rl.webtracer.cc/-/?bayzm
O1 - Hosts: 1159680172 auto.search.msn.com

Be sure all windows are closed, other then HijackThis, before hitting the Fix button.

Go to C:\WINDOWS and delete stsheets.dat (if found)

Reboot normally, close any open browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log. Again, you may need to reset your start page to telia.

Before you follow dlh6213's instructions, disable MS antispyware and Adsubtract. Make sure they are no longer active as they can prevent the removal of malware.

OK now it’s done and there where no problems to follow you instructions.

First I uninstall a few 3 part protection/spy ware. Made the backup. In safe mode add the repairsts.reg file and delete the RO and 01. Finaly deleted the stsheets.dat.

The “Adsubtract has it any other name? I can not find!

In the logfile you will se that the skit is still there, what shall we do new?

Well, let's try this; get CCleaner from here:
http://www.ccleaner.com/ (click on the Download tab)

Start CCleaner
Click Run Cleaner, CCleaner will search for unnecessary files and delete them
Click the Issues tab
Click Scan for Issues
When CCleaner is done, you'll should see a list of found issues; right-click in this list and Select All
Click Fix Selected Issues
Click Yes when you're asked if you want to Backup changes
Give the backup a name (or use the default name) and click Save
Click Fix All Selected Issues
When that's done, close CCleaner

Reboot in Normal Mode and post a new hijackthis log

Ok, no fun at all. It’s back….

I followed your instruction and you have the logfil below, log1.

After that I made up my mind and reboot the computer into safe mode and did all the instructions from the very beginning without rebooting between. Run HJT and you have the logfile before the reboot logfile2. Finally a rebooted into normal mode and run the silent runner directly, se log file 3 and after that, HJT and you have the logfile 4.

What shall we do?

Paul

Log HJT no 1.

This is the only one I could get no info on, so keep your fingers crossed :).

Be sure you are configured to SHOW ALL FILES AND FOLDERS, including System and Hidden Files. If you don't know how to do that, check http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html and follow the step-by-step directions for your Windows version.

Please go offline.

Reboot into Safe Mode.

Find:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\bdasupu.sys
And rename it to: bdasupu.old

Scan with hijackthis and tick the boxes next to all the following entries, then close all browser and explorer windows and hit the "Fix checked" button.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://rl.webtracer.cc/-/?bayzm

O1 - Hosts: 1159680172 auto.search.msn.com

Reboot when done and post another log please.

Dear Crunchi,

Hippi!! This one is BY, BY…. :D

The “Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files I forgot to change before, but now its done. I hope that this don’t give you to much frustration.

I have a svchost.exe that wants to go on the net every time I start the computer. What is that software doing? Is it a bad one or?

The logfile is created in normal mode.

Just to be sure I did 2 more logfiles one is silent runner and stardreck.
Please check so we don’t have anything else hiding in the shadows.

The infected computer has been offline during the entire cleaning process and will be until you say it OK. At that time updating will be the first I do, windows and IE. If I go for 3 part protection, what do you recommend?

And once again a big thanks to you two!

Paul

Please visit our webpage, www.stambeck.com and check out supermoto drivers.

Here is the new logfile.

Did you rename the file I mentioned? I still do not know what it is, so....

Please go here and have this file scanned.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\bdasupu.sys

You should reboot a few times to be certain that the hijacker has gone, then you should be ok to go back on-line.

Yes I did,

In the directory drives there was two files, nearly the same name bdasupu.sys and bdasup.sys.
The last one have information on it that say MS something. The one that I rename to bdasupu.old did only have created dat and that was exact the same as bdasup.sys 2003XXXX.

It doesn't look like a legitimate file, looking at the results. Can you please zip up the file and send it to the following address; opera.fan.1ATgmail.com but change the AT to @ :). I will have a quick look and see what I can see.
