Hello

A few weeks back I was hit badly by a rougue site that bypassed all my virus and adware blocking software like a knife through hot butter.

Popups, viruses and redirects took over like mad.

Have managed to get rid of most of everything (and believe me it WAS EVERYTHING), but have a persistent problem with the odd new virus being detected every so often, Home page getting renamed and Malware getting past the filters.

I have Spybot, Adaware, AVG AV, Norton Firewall, Spyware blaster and a number of other precautions such as panda activescan installed and up to date, but something, somehow is bypassing it all.

Spybot and Adaware come up clean, but downloaded and ran "Adware Spy" today and it presented me with over 400 registry items mainly in Local Machine, IE, ActiveX Compatibility, that read like a who's who of every malware signature ever invented. Couldn't use it to fix the issues though as you have to buy before they do that.. And I was a little suspicous that such a huge number had bypassed the other adware checkers.. Not sure if it's just a sales gimmick?

Have attached HijackThis log below and would appreciate any help.

Many thanks

Moo

PS. have already disabled "XP system restore" and Norton Goback, just in case it is these that are sending ghosts of dead viruses and other nasties back into the machine.. Oh and CWShredder run as well!

It is most likely a gimmick; Adware Spy is identified as 'Rogue/suspect antispyware' here:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm
Where you can find this statement regarding Adware Spy (and other products in this 'family'):
"... the dubious distinction of generating the most false positives on a "spyware free" system -- flagging hundreds of items as "spyware," including completely legitimate programs like Nero, Adobe Acrobat, and AdShield, among others."

You might want to give these a try:

CounterSpy (http://www.download.com/3000-8022_4-10337358.html)

Ewido Security Suite (http://www.download.com/Ewido-Security-Suite/3000-8022_4-10326287.html?tag=lst-0-1)

And if that doesn't clean it up, download and run Silent Runners.vbs -- http://www.silentrunners.org/.
Post the information from the log it generates in this thread.

Hello again.

Thank you for your reply and sorry no sooner reply from me, but was busy following your instructions!

Have uninstalled "adware spy".. Barstewards.. And to think that Google still let them advertise their rip-off ware in featured ads.. Should be laws against trying to fleece the public that way.. Hmmm.. probably is.. but no one interested in enforcing..

Installed and ran CounterSpy.. (very tidy piece of software) it found a few more dodgy things including the TIDS Dialler that everything else missed (but shouldn't be a prob as I'm on braoadband) and a few cookies.. all now in quarantine.

Have pasted the silent runner thing below.. But not sure if it gives anymore than the same sort of thing that HJT does.. and I've searched google for the ones HJT refers to.. without spotting anything that looks dodgy.

On another post I saw the thing about ADS. I have about 20 identified by HJT, but am not sure if I can delete them Although I would like to.. They are also below..

Many thanks again

Moo
