Msdirectx.sys infected with collected.5.L

Hey. Well, I have a virus. AVG picked it up, and the Msdirectx.sys is infected with collected.5.L. I delete it using AVG, but the pop up still comes up. Sometimes, it is on my mom's side of XP too, but don't see it. So there has to be some kind of traces left on my computer. What do I do? A friend suggested using system restore to go back, but the only date that was available was Monday, after the virus was discovered, and when I try going back on the months, it doesn't do anything, so I think this virus got rid of the system restore. Please help. I'm scared that it's going to get worse. Please reply. Thanks, Steve

Download HijackThis self-extracting zip version from here. Once downloaded, double click on the file & it will install into it's own, permanent folder.
Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop up giving you the option of where to save it. Save it to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

Well, I found a solution when I googled msdirectx.sys, but I just turned my computer on, and it looks like it's still there. It said to go into the registry and delete any msdirectx.sys in there, but guess it didn't work. I also found a new virus when I scanned with AVG. It was in the system32 folder with file ggfig.exe and was infected with the Opanki.CQ worm, but when i tried deleting it, it wasn't there. Well here's the HJT.

Click here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
*Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\msdirectx.sys

*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

Once booted up, copy the part in bold below into notepad. Save it as unlegacy.reg (set filetype to "All Files")

Now, let's open a command prompt by going to the start menu and then select 'Run'.

In the box that pops up type in 'cmd'. The command prompt will open.

OR

You can go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. Unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u IEMsg.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save typing them in.

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

When your done, rescan your system and make sure the following isn't present:

N3 - Netscape ... 5CSBWeb_01.src (or) 5CSBWeb_02.src

If it is, then fix that entry again; sometimes it'll take more than one pass. The actual entry is ok, and won't be deleted, it's the java wrapper marked in red that needs to be removed.

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in "Safe Mode".
