internet explorer doesnt seem to bother loading

hi. my uncle has installed sun java cd/dvd writer onto his laptop the other day, after doing so he can no longer view web pages using mozilla or ie.

The laptop is a hp pavilion zx5000 running windows xp with sp2.

There are 3 methods of connecting to the internet on the laptop, an adsl line, normal dial up and bluetooth connection. All 3 connections will connect however all that is displayed is cannot find server or page not found. I have also noticed that no program can connect either, i.e. ad-aware and messenger both cannot connect.

i have run microsoft anti-spyware, norton anti-virus 2004, ad-aware se personal, and about buster but so far to no avail. below is the hijack this v1.99.1 log. any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Your internet is still hijacked by New.Net. Did you successfully uninstall it, or did you run the uninstall tool? If you didn't try the tool, please do so as it has always worked before.

thanks for the quick reply. i couldn't find new net in the add/remove programs, so i downloaded the uninstall

from procedure 4 and ran that, the uninstall seemed to complete perfectly.

OK. For some reason it has left a remnant behind which is disrupting your winsock chain.

Download LSPfix from here
On the opening screen, click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox. Check all instances of "newdot~1.dll" (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane. Then click Finish.

The entry will likely have the full name of newdotnet rather than newdot~1 so it's ok to move that over.
