Hi,
Download CCleaner and install it.
Download RBotGUI, a removal tool from Sophos.

Make Windows to show all files:-
Go to Start > My Computer.
Go to Tools menu, click Folder Options (Folder Option will be in View Menu in Win98).
Uncheck Hide protected operating system files.
Then, click to select the option Show hidden files and folders.
Click Apply and then click OK to exit.

Reboot in Safe Mode:-
Restart (or switch ON) the PC.
Then, keep tapping the F8 Key.
From the menu that will be displayed, out of which choose Safe Mode and press Enter.

Run HijackThis and click Do only a System scan.
Then put a check mark infront of below listed entries:-

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iejp32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\iejp32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sdkpv.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkpv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winpu32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\winpu32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinLogin] win32x.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mfcpg32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcpg32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [apphq.exe] C:\WINDOWS\apphq.exe

Close all other open programs except Hijackthis and click the button Fix Checked in HijackThis.

Exit from HijackThis. Delete these files:-
C:\WINDOWS\system32\iejp32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sdkpv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winpu32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcpg32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\apphq.exe

Go to Start > Search. Here click "All files and folders" in the left pane. Next, click on "More advanced options". Here select the options "Search system folders", "Search hidden files and folders" and "Search subfolders". Next, type/copy the below mentioned filename and search for it, if you find it, right-click on it and click delete:-
win32x.exe

Run CCleaner:-

  • Click "Options" button and here go to "Advanced" tab and uncheck the option "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours".
  • Click OK to exit from the Options.
  • Finally click "Run Cleaner" and click "OK" to continue cleaning.

Run Ewido:-

  • Click on the "Scanner" button in the left menu, then click on the "Start" button.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "Clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.

Run RbotGUI and click "Configuration". Here click "Scan All Files" and click "OK". Next, click "GO" to start the scan.

Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools Menu > Internet Options. Here click "Programs" tab, and click "Reset Web Settings". Click "Apply" and "OK".

Restart the PC, run HijackThis again, and post a fresh log. Also, post the Ewido log.

Thanks very much for your reply.

I followed the instructions you provided but unfortunately I still have the problem.

RbotGUI didn't find anything either and the Search did not find any file called 'win32x.exe'.

Latest run report from Ewido was clear and shows nothing. Here is a copy of the latest report from HijackThis:-

Hi,
Check whether you can access sites properly through FireFox or Opera and please post back.

Hi,

I have now been able to access everything successfully through FireFox!!

I am very grateful for your help in resolving my problem. Thanks again!

PS. keep up the good work!

Hi,
Happy to hear that you can access the sites through FireFox. But, there is a possibility of some malware present in your PC. It's better to perform an online virus scan at TrendMicro HouseCall using FireFox.
(If HouseCall asks for Java Runtime, you can download it here.)

Hi,

Thanks for the further advice. I ran TrendMicro HouseCall as suggested but it nothing found.

I agree with you that I think l have some malware present as the problem still persists but I'm OK if I use FireFox as the same problem doesn't materialise. Its just annoying I'm unable to trace anything.

Hi,
Please download WinPFind and extract it to a folder. Next, run WinPFind.exe and click "Start Scan" to start the scanning. Post the log of WinPFind.

Also, open Internet Explorer, go to Tools Menu > Internet Options. Here click "Advanced" tab, and uncheck the option "Enable third party browser extensions" and click "Apply" and "OK". Close IE. Then, reopen it and try accessing the sites, and post back whether you can view the sites or not.

Hi,

Thanks for the continued support and help. Below is copy of the log from WinPFind.

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.
