1. Please open Notepad

 • Click Start , then Run
 • Type notepad.exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

Registry::
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\DomainProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"C:\\Program Files\\MSN Messenger\\livecall.exe"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\DomainProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"C:\\Program Files\\MSN Messenger\\livecall.exe"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\DomainProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List]
"C:\\Program Files\\MSN Messenger\\livecall.exe"=-

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Physically disconnect from the internet.

5. Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.

6. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.

7. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next replyafter you re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix:

 • Combofix.txt

Please take note:

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Ok. Try installing messenger again and keep your fingers crossed :).

Hi Crunchie,

It is still the same: it worked the first time I logged in but, as soon as I logged out and tried a second time it just disappears from the screen. I tried as well with a second Windows Live ID and it was exactly the same: first time ok, second time not ok.

Shall I delete the notepads I have saved in my desktop (GMER log, Java, etc..) or would you still like to have a look at them?

If you have any other suggestions, please let me know

regards,
Antonio

Not sure if this will help, but it will not hurt :)

Download Dial-a-Fix and run it. Select the 'Check all' (green arrow) and then hit 'GO.'
Reboot when done and see how things are now.

==

Have I seen those logs?

Hi Crunchie,

I ran Dial-a-Fix and a few "error-127" messages appeared on the screen (copy of screen print attached). Windows Live Messenger still the same, after rebooting the computer : (

and

Yes, the logs contain data that I've already sent you before.

regards,
Antonio

When you re-install Messenger, are you using a fresh copy from the net, or the one already on the pc?

Dial-a-Fix error seems to be because of you running IE8.

HI Antonio, I was just trying to find an answer on net when I saw that we share the same fustrating problem. I done the clean installation, remove and re-install and even reinstall WLM from the same website you used. Still it sign in as normal, close by itself to the task bar and disappear when I move the cursor to open it. If you find a solution, please help me by letting me know how to solve it. My email is <Snip>

Hi Crunchie,

No problem! ... I have also contacted the Windows Live Messenger technical support but they have not found a solution for the problem as well (yet) !

regards,
Antonio
