After reading about all the help you have given others, I thought I would ask for some myself.

I have downloaded HiJack This and pasted my log at the bottom. I am recently had to remove a site from my webring which contained Porn. When I visited the site to confirm it's contents I was infected. Besides being personally offended, my children use my computer and are exposed to these horrible pop-ups. Any help you can offer is GREATLY appreciated!

These entries have been positively identified as malicious programs. In the HijackThis program, place a check mark next to the following entries.

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {20EC3D2D-33C1-4C9D-BC37-C2D500688DA2} - (no file)

Suggestions

The following are not necessarily spyware/malware, but we suggest you place a check mark next to the following entries, as these programs may be taking up system resources.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\jusched.exe
(Description: Sun Java update scheduler. Checks for updates. Not necessary. Removing this entry will free up a small amount of system resources.)

1) Press the "Fix checked" button. Then close HijackThis.

2) Then reboot your computer.

3) Uninstall Virtual Bouncer. Delete the folder C:\Program Files\VBouncer\

4) Delete the folder C:\Program Files\VBouncer\

5) Empty your recycle bin.

6) Run Windows Update and install all critical updates.

7) Make sure your anti-virus program is up to date with the latest patches. If you do not have an anti-virus program, download and install AVG Personal Edition Anti-Virus, which is free.

8) Reboot one last time.

Post back after you've finished.

Hi MsNytOwl,

Your log indicates a few different infections; let's start with the following general cleaning:

<EDIT> Hmm... looks like just_a_nobody beat me to some of this already</EDIT>

1. Download and install these two utilities:

ewido Security Suite - http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Microsoft Anti-Spyware beta - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en

2. Open ewido. If you receive a warning message saying "Database not found"; just click "OK" for this. Next, in the main screen, click "Update" and click "Start Update". After the update process completes, exit from Ewido.

3. Open MS Antispyware beta. Make sure the "AntiSpyware Autoupdater" feature is enabled, and that it has downloaded the most current antispyware updates. Close the program after you've verified this.

4. Reboot into Safe Mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up).

5. Run ewido and MS Antispyware beta consecutively (the order doesn't matter), and have both programs fix whatever they find.

6. - Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".

- For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (but not the folders themselves):

Important: One of the normal steps in eliminating malicious programs is to entirely delete the contents of all Temp folders. Given that, if any data that you care about is living in those Temp folders, you need to move it to a safe location now, or it will be erased along with everything else!

1. Cookies
2. Local Settings\Temp
3. Local Settings\History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Prefetch folder.

Note- If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed. Windows will allow you to delete the versions of those files which exist in sub-folders within the main Temp/Temorary folders, but might not let you delete the versions of those files that exist in the main Temp folders themselves; this is normal and OK.

- Empty your Recycle Bin.

7. Reboot normally, run HijackThis again, and post the new log. Also post the "Scan Report" that ewido generated.

Thank you very much folks! I preformed all the downloads, updates and installs you suggested. Deleted, cleaned and re-cleaned the items several times. With my fingers crossed and ewido and MS Antispyware beta installed and running it seems my troubles have gone away

I am very grateful to the both of you and now with my cleaned up and children-appropriate browser I will spend some time checking out the other forums here.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!

MsNytOwl~!~

Glad we could help, MsNytOwl :)

If possible, can you run HijackThis one more time and post the new log for us, please. We'd like to review the log just to make sure that all signs of "unwanted guests" have been removed before we mark this thread as "Solved". Thanks.

Also- have a read through this thread for suggestions on how you can minimize your chances of getting infected in the future.
