Heh, alrite. Well first, I see some things wrong with the running processes, SO, what we're gonna do is run CCleaner...

Begin by downloading CCleaner, and specifically choosing the most recent version.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files". 9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Now, install the program. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\History
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Cookies
C:\Windows\Prefetch

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' tab. Inside, check the box labeled 'Custom Files and Folders'.

Now, reboot into Safe mode.
Run scans in both the 'Cleaner' and 'Issues'. Note: It might take several scans in each to remove all of the junk.

After doing this, reboot back into normal mode and continue by downloading Ewido Security Suite.

  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click Update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"
  • Click on Scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

After doing this, restart the computer.

Then, post back here with a new HJT log, and the Ewido scan log.

Thanks.

Ok, I did everything until I got to the part of rebooting in safe mode.

It's been a while since I've done that & it was always done w/ someone instructioning me, so I need the instructions plus how to get back into normal mode once I'm done in safe mode.

You also said to run cleaner in safemode. Is the cleaner I have open now going to keep all the settings so when I see it on the grey desktop I just open it & press "run cleaner"?

Also I don't know what ewido security suite is or where to find it.

Thanks a ton :)

Michelle

Geeze, not good :(

I tried to get into safe mode 4 times & I've done it b4 on other computers w/ no problem.

The first 2 times the F8 key didn't seem to be working, so the 3rd & 4th time I pressed harder.

The 3rd & 4th time I got to message that started counting down & gave me the option to get into safe mode by using the arrows, but none of the arrows would work, yet they work everywhere else :(

What's wrong?

Michelle

Hi there,

I installed Ewido, but can you pls. help me w/ the safemode issue.

Thanks

Michelle

Hmm, I don't know about the Safe mode.

Do ya happen to be using a wireless mouse of the sort?

If so, try using a wired mouse.

I'll get back to ya after I look into this a bit.

Thanks.

i dont know if this is adware caused or not but sometimes the computer will randomly shut down on its own from an improperly working fan so you might want to check that

Nope, not using anything wireless.

I don't believe in wireless as there are too many problems.

I did have problems in the past w/ the keyboard only b/c I had to press the "delete" key very very hard to even get it to delte e-mails in Outlook, but I always assumed it was an Outlook problem b/c I have soooo many e-mails in it & Outlook is buggy in general IMO.

The odd time my clipboard doesn't work either.

I can copy & paste to notepad, but not to a site or something simalar.

These problems have happened periodically, it's not a daily thing & for the majority of the time, the delete & copy works.

Can't I just use the cleaner without being in safe mode?

Thanks :)

Yea, good idea, let's try that. However, it'll get caught up on some running processes that we need ended.

SO, let's open the process manager and disable any of the following first:

~e5d141.tmp

where ~ is a random letter or number.

After doing that, run CCleaner and Ewido.

Post back here, after that, with the Ewido log and a new HJT log.

Thanks.

So sorry for the delay.

I work from home on my computer & doing this obviously takes a lot of free time & shutting down my million & one programs :), so I've been waiting for a spare moment.

Ok, so I go into processes & highlight the one you listed below & press "end process"?

What did you mean by " where ~ is a random letter or number" You mean any other ones that look like the above one I should do the same with?

Thanks

Ok, so I go into processes & highlight the one you listed below & press "end process"?

Exactly. But, the ~ in the name means that the computer doesn't know exactly what letter, per say, it is.

SO, with luck, it'll appear in the Processes as
~e5d141.tmp . However, it's more likely that the ~ is some other letter or number.

Examples of possiblities:

te5d141.tmp
le5d141.tmp

And such like that.

Thanks.

Ok, & when I'm done, do I have to turn it back on?

Nope, I have a strong feeling that, since its a *.tmp file, its spyware.

SO, after disabeling it, run CCleaner and Ewido again.

Thanks.

Ok, very strange.

When I closed everything down but my IMing programs & my personal assistant, ZA etc., there were no .tmp files in the processes area, so I didn't disable anything.

I ran cleaner, but when I went to run ewido, it had already expired :( so now I'd have to buy it.

Do I really need it?

I'm going to past the HJthis file here...

Ok, I can't find it on my computer at first glance. Did the cleaner remove it?

Michelle

Ok, that's very good that CCleaner ran.

it had already expired so now I'd have to buy it.

Er..not exactly. THe only 2 things that expire are Auto updates and a background guard...neither of which is necessary to run.

Just be sure to manually update before a scan.

Ok, I can't find it on my computer at first glance. Did the cleaner remove it?

*looking back up at the log*

Arg ya, I was stupid  I forgot to have ya move it into a permenant folder.

SO, let's dl it again:

http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis.zip

Before running, create a new folder inside Program Files, named 'HJT'. Now, move the HJT icon into this newly created folder, and run a new scan from there.

Post the log back here.

Thanks.

Ok, I finally got the Ewido to run.

Awsome.

Begin by uninstalling the following programs via Add/Remove Programs:

MessengerPlus3
Viewpoint Manager

Now, open HJT and place checks next to the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3\MsgPlus.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MessengerPlus3] "C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3\MsgPlus.exe" /WinStart

Now, delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3

Now, restart the computer and post a new log back here.

Lastly, are ya still having problems?

Thanks.

Ok, first off re: these 2...

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3

What is that viewpoint thingy? I think I was just asked to update it & told it no.

As for MSN Plus, I need that :( MSN sucks without it. Can't I keep it?

Michelle

As for MSN Plus, I need that MSN sucks without it. Can't I keep it?

Well, it really all depends on whether ya got it along with MSN.

Oftentimes, MessengerPlus3 is a valid sign of bad viruses etc, mostly becase it's often connected to the virus.

However, if ya kno ya got it with MSN, it's alrite to keep.

Thanks.

Messenger Plus comes bundled with LOP :). You can reinstall Messenger Plus without the sponsor during the install process.

Geeze, I was never notified you guys wrote to me :(

I was wondering what was happening.

Ok, I don't get the sponsors w/ MSN Plus. MSN doesn't own MSN, it's an extra add on by another company.

So, given that, is it ok to keep it & just do the viewpoint & checks next to HJT?

Thanks :)

Michelle

Yes, check viewpoint, and uninstall it. Then post one more up to date log, so we can ensure you are still clean :).

Hi guys,

Ok, I still can't get into safemode & even when we went in thru MSConfig, the mouse wouldn't work :( Pls. help me to fix that. It's scaring me.

Here is the HJT file. Still can't give you the ewido file b/c of safemode.

Hi there,

Anyone out there to look at my HJthis & Safe Mode problem?

Thanks a ton :)

Michelle

Can you do a system restore to before the problems started?

Can I or did I?

I don't know how to do a system restore.

Thanks

Michelle

Can you do a system restore to before the problems started?

Go to the start button then help and support. Under pick a task there is an option to do a system restore. Find a date before the problems started and off you go :).

Ok, I'm not sure what you want me to do, do a system restore or undo the system restore.

I don't see what you are referring to in that area, the only thing that mentions system restore is this...

Undo changes to your computer with System Restore

Thanks :)

That's the one :).
