Hello!
I've seen some other topics on spyfalcon, but I figured i would post my own thread since I have another problem also.
Usually I'm better about watching what i d/l and where i go but last week i went to a site and it offered me a site to upgrade my windows media codec! so I went, and then a damn flashing icon came up and had a red outlined box come up with a link to spyfalcon website when you clicked on it.
Problem 2: I went to a friends website tonight, and now i'm getting all kinds of popup's saying im infected and it takes me to anti-spy lab website when i click on the links. It also sends a "system will shut down now" error but it doesn't shut down, rather, it pops an ad up and takes me to antispylab.com.
Here are some screenshots of the crap I am getting, hopefully you can help. I ran spy sweeper, and it said it cleaned out all the files, but the icon on the toolbar never went away. so obviously it is not being cleaned. I hope you can help
Some of the pics have both spyfalcon error, and the other virus error on them.

Welcome to Daniweb :). Heh, sure are infected, I'll say that.

Okie, this post might be a bit lengthy...

First, uninstall the following programs via Add/Remove Programs:

WeatherBug
Viewpoint Media Player
PartyPoker

Now, let's continue by downloading
SmitfraudFix. Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.
______________________________

Next, download the trial version of Ewido.

  • Install Ewido.
  • When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
  • When you run Ewido for the first time, you could get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click Ok.
  • The program will prompt you to update. Click the Ok button.
  • The program will now go to the main screen.

You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.

  • On the left-hand side of the main screen click the Update Button.
  • Click on Start.

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once finished updating, close Ewido.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this linkto manually update Ewido. Make sure to close Ewido before installing the update.

Next, download CCleaner, specifically choosing the most recent version.

Then, follow these steps:

1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
2. Double-click on the "My Computer" icon.
3. Select the "Tools" menu and click "Folder Options".
4. After the new window appears select the "View" tab.
5. Place a checkmark in the checkbox labeled "Display the contents of system folders".
6. Under the "Hidden files and folders" section select the radio button labeled "Show hidden files and folders".
7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types".
8. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled "Hide protected operating system files". 9. Press the "Apply" button and then the "OK" button and shutdown My Computer.
10. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

Now, install the program. Open it, and choose the 'Options' tab. Inside, hit the 'Custom' tab, and add the following folders (Note: Not all of these files are on every computer. If one of these isn't present, skip it):

C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temp
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\History
C:\Documents and Settings\<Every user listed>\Cookies
C:\Windows\Prefetch

After doing this, move back to the 'Cleaner' tab, and inside this, be sure your open to the 'Windows' tab. Inside, check the box labeled 'Custom Files and Folders'.

Now close the program.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer, so it will take some time to run. When done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Please print out or copy/paste these instructions to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all of the steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask before moving on.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?". Type Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

If your computer does not restart automatically, do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt, located at C:\rapport.txt. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.
______________________________

Now, run CCleaner, scanning only under the 'Cleaner' tab. You might need to run it several times to remove all the junk.
After running it, be sure to empty the Recycle bin.
______________________________

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start Ewido, and run a full scan.

  • Click on Scanner
  • Click on Settings
    • Under How to scan all boxes should be checked
    • Under Unwanted Software all boxes should be checked
    • Under What to scan select Scan every file
    • Click on Ok
  • Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
  • Let the program scan the machine.

If Ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says Perform action on all infections and put a checkmark in the box next to Create encrypted backup, then choose clean and click Ok.

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save Report.

  • Click Save Report button
  • Save the report to your Desktop

Close Ewido and Reboot in Normal Mode.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #3 - Delete Trusted zone by typing 3 and press Enter.
Answer Yes to the question "Restore Trusted Zone ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install them. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.
______________________________

In the return post, include the contents of C:\rapport.txt, the Ewido scan log, and a new HJT log.

We still need to clean a bit more.

Thanks.

Ok, I actually kind of did everything on my own before you replied. I Got the unknown x2 virus taken care of, but that spyfalcon was being more difficult. So, I just did all the instructions from the prevoius spyfalcon thread said to do, and i think it fixed it. Its not there anymore, anyway. That was my hijackthis log anyway that i just ran.
here is my rapport.

All seems well again, does everything look clean to you? thanks for the help.

Awsome, that infection's gone.

Now, uninstall the following programs via the Add/Remove Programs:

Weatherbug
PartyPoker

After this, check the following in HJT:

After fixing these, reboot into safe mode and delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\PartyPoker
C:\Program Files\AWS

Lastly, reboot into normal mode again, and rehide system files:

We need to re hide system files. To do so, please follow the steps below:

  1. Double-click My Computer.
  2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  3. Click the View tab.
  4. Put a check by "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  5. Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
  6. Check "Hide protected operating system files."
  7. Click Apply, and then click OK.

Finally, are ya having any more problems?

Thanks.

actually partypoker is a poker game that i've always used, and the weather bug was there when i bought it. Everything is back to normal, thanks for your help.

Ahh ok, if ya actively use PartyPoker, its cool to keep on there.

WeatherBug is commonly installed anyways, but nearly always, its embedded with spyware. Also, its a major data hog. However, if ya wanna keep it on, it's your decision.

Lastly, its all good that everything's fixed.

One more thing. Could ya mark the thread as solved?

Thanks again :)
