Forgot to put in that I'm running windows 2000 professional and Internet Explorer. Please help. Thank You.

Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder or directly on the desktop & not directly on your hard drive). Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\WINNT\system32\rediyr.exe< file

Reboot normally.

Can you download the following app & run it, making sure to have one internet exploder window open. Save the log & paste the results back here.
VX2Finder

New HJT log too plz, with the entire log this time plz. At the top it shows the HJT version as well as the OS & IE version.

Thank You for your assistance, and for bearing with my inexperience. I tried to fix this myself after reading several of the postings but I'm at work and do not want to damage the computer. As an aside, I tried to boot up into safe mode and could'nt get in, is this because we have a three line sign in? I followed your instructions other than the safe boot and I still have the problem. When I searched for rediyr.exe it wasn't there. This thing seems to change name with each entry into IE. For some reason Trend Micro scan will not run it crashes the browser.

I am not sure why you cannot log in in safe mode.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

Delete this file:

C:\WINNT\system32\jgjew.dll<<<<

Download CWShredder from here & run it. Select the fix button & it will get rid of everything related to CoolWebSearch that is stored in it's database. Close ALL windows, including IE, before running CWShredder. Reboot.

To help prevent this from happening again, install the patches for the vulnerabilities that this hijacker exploits by going here for your critical updates.

Reboot after doing this & post another log please.

Here is the latest hijack this log. CWShedder located a file C:\WINNT\uninsqvp.exe and said to ask the forum if it was a problem file. In my add/remove programs area there is a program titled Home Search Assistent. Apparently mispelled on purpose that will not allow me to remove it. Thanks again for you help.
