Same problem as everyone else, it seems. Using XP - in safe mode I ran AdAware, rebooted, ran latest Spybot and CWShredder, but on reboot it still tries to change my homepage. Please help! Here's the latest HJT log:

Download and install APM from: http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=apm

Close all windows except HijackThis and fix the lines above.

In the upper window of APM select explorer.exe
In the lower window find and rightclick the BHO from the HijackThis log
Select Unload DLL and click OK on the prompts that follow.

Reboot and scan with AdAware to remove the txt and html protocol association.

Did as instructed but when I ran APM the 02 - BHO...\ajb.dll was nowhere to be found in the lower window. Is it hidden/super hidden or something?

Also, I did this without going into safe mode. Should I have been in safe mode?

Thanks for the help. I'll repost if the problem continues.

Try looking for the dll in APM by selecting *iexplore.exe* instead

I did look in iexplore.exe, and then tried explore.exe in the upper window, but no ajb.dll found in the lower. Maybe HJT removed this file when it ran and that is why APM can't find it now?

That is a possibility as the 02 entries are generally removed by HJT. The dll we are after though when fixed, usually respawns itself once HJT fixes it.
Can you post a new log after your next reboot.

Been away a few days. Problem still here. Ran AdAware again and Spybot. Here's my latest HJT log. Any new help very appriciated. Thanks.

Please download this tool called About Buster from:
http://www.atribune.org/downloads/AboutBuster.zip
Created by RubberDucky
Unzip it to your desktop but don't run it yet.

Now start Hijackthis and tick the boxes next to these items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {95BBD8C1-7FCA-4CBF-8DBF-7DF46C2F2CE8} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\nhbla.dll (file missing)

Now close ALL Internet Explorer windows and hit fix checked.
Do not open internet explorer to come back here until after running the tool.

Double click Aboutbuster.exe, click OK, click Start, then click OK. This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them.

Once the tool is done scanning, copy the log and paste it into your thread.

Thanks very much for all your help Crunchie.

No problems. If you update CWShredder & run it, it should now take care of this hijack. Nothing like a one button fix :cheesy:
When done, Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\Joe\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = file://C:\DOCUME~1\Joe\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = file://C:\DOCUME~1\Joe\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCDRealtime] C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe< file

Reboot normally after doing the above then post a fresh log please.

Sorry, I posted last nights HJT log in the previous post. Here is the most current onem made after I ran Aboutbuster and HJT:

Sorry about the goof.

Looks like it worked. How is the comp??

So far so good. Thanks for all the help Crunchie. I'll repost if it comes back.

You are welcome :)

Hi Again:

IE was clear for a few days now About:blank is back with a vewngence. I safe mode I cleared the temp and temp internet files, ran CWShredder, Aboutbuster, AdAware, Spybot and HJT. It clears the computer...until I reboot.
I went into the Registry and checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE....WINDOWS and looked in the right pane for AppInit_dlls, chose Modify Binary Data, but it just shows a few zero's...no sign of a hidden dll there.

Is there some way to find and delete the respawning dll?

Here is my HJT log from this morning. As you can see, everything has already respawned. Help!

Tried the steps in the above post 2 days ago and since then no sign of the About.blank problem (even in the HJT log). Hopefully all is clean now. 2 weeks of this mess. Thanks for all the help. Anyone out there with a persistant problem should follow the steps set out by Archon Wing. Thanks.
