I work for an IT Support company and one of our clients has brought in their laptop as it was full of spyware and other nasties. After cleaning out the laptop completly and testing it was clean I then gave her it back. As soon as she connected to the internet a number of different pop ups appeared and other messages asking to install various anti spyware programs.

I then took the laptop back to the office and plugged it into out network and browsed the net I got nothing, the laptop was as clean as it was when I gave her it back. I then ran spybot, adaware, HJT etc and they showed one or two entries, nothing major. I then took the laptop back to her house personally and plugged it in, connected to the internet and i then was presented with a number of different pop ups. The laptop is now back in my possession in the office and it looks clean to me but i am almost sure that when she gets is back again there will be popups and messages etc.

Has anyone seen a problem like this before? It looks as if the problem is on her broadband connection but i cannot see how this can be as she doesnt have a static ip address.

Thanks in advance

It could be one of two things, one is that the malware on the comp isn't the best and is only able to connect thru her internet settings/type, or she might be the target of a hacker who just wants to annoy her. Reguardless let's see the HJT log.

Thanks for your response, heres my HJT log

vundo infection in there, plus a trojan. Does she use a router?

Yes she does use a router, what do you suggest i do to solve this?

Thanks for your response BTW

Be a cool joke if the router software had a virus, or was somehow hacked... :) But why not? Dl a fresh copy of its firmware from the maker's site. Thinking about it more, perhaps the firewall and AV gear in YOUR firm's router prevented any popups etc from appearing? But first clear the vundo etc from her lappy; dyu need a hand with that?

Yeah if you dont mind:$

I thought that i had removed it all, obviously not.

Cheers!

This one is the tip-off : {E2EE5C44-C66D-499d-BEAE-A2A79189A63A}
Just in case something else is hidden would you rename hijackthis.exe to.. umm... imabunny.exe for the next scan, please?

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop from http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4
Double-click VundoFix.exe to start it, click the Scan for Vundo button.
When the scan completes click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files - click YES
Your desktop will then go blank as the process of removing Vundo starts.
When completed it will prompt that it will restart your computer - click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the
Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.
Post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt plus a new HijackThis log.
I think ComboFix will get a couple of the others... and I will get to see a more complete startup list..
Download this file: http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
...or from here: http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
- to run it dclick combofix.exe and follow the prompts to start it. When finished, it will produce a log - post that log in your next reply.
A word of caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop.
Post those, plus a fresh hijackthis scan...

Thanks for your response gerbil!

Im not actually in the office today but when i get back i shall try that and post back my results.

Thanks
