I am trying to establish a connection between LibreOffice (5.4.6.2) and Mariadb (10.1.29)/mysql. I have researched various resources on the web but am stuck not being able to establish a connection preliminary steps taken: * the file mariadb-java-client-2.4.0.jar is downloaded from [https://downloads.mariadb.com/Connectors/java/connector-java-2.3.0/](https://downloads.mariadb.com/Connectors/java/connector-java-2.3.0/) * JRE is installed and enabled under LibreOffice Tools > Options > Advanced * in that Advanced tab, Class Path is set with `mariadb-java-client-2.4.0.jar` (I have tried with a path `/opt/mariadb-java-client-2.4.0.jar` and `/home/<my user name>/mariadb-java-client-2.4.0.jar`) Based on web site and youtube tutorials, the next steps are to connect via LibreOffice Base. This may not be the best room to post this in but I didn't see any room that really jumped out at me for this, and since I'm doing all this on Linux desktop it made sense. I'm having trouble placing the meta data (artists, album, title) for a .wav song that I have. Through using three different programs I'm gettin different results. I can open the file in Rythmbox and select properties for the song and I can see the text fields for all the formentioned meta data above, thie fields all say 'Unknown' and the text fields aren't …

I've discovered a weird problem with my Linux Mint-system (Linux Mint 18). After rebooting my system (or restarting as well) I got the GRUB menu, but my keyboard is not responding... So I have to wait for the timeout to get my system booted. The keyboard is wired to the computer through an USB-connection. So it's not wireless. And it works OK as soon as my system has booted.. (?). I have installed/loaded Linux kernel 4.4.142, 4.4.143 and 4.4.145. When running kernel 4.4.142 Virtualbox and VMWare Workstation works as it should, but when I try to use 4.4.143 or 4.4.145 …

I want to see your suggestions on comparing CPanel and FASTPANEL. I used CPanel for some time but later I changed to FASTPANEL which is absolutely free but provides you with the same opportunities. Also FASTPANEL's design looks much better than CPANEL's one. So now I can't understand why people pay for CPanel. What panel do you guys use and why?

What I like to know is if network programs still use this file? I can comment out http port 80 without any effects on firefox: ># http 80/tcp ># http 80/udp Then I can delete out /etc/services without no serious effects on the system: >sudo rm -v /etc/services The best of what I know is to manually enable/disable network services with systemd: >sudo systemctl enable NAME >sudo systemctl disable NAME The next question is how would I get the list of network services to enable/disable all in one config/script file on linux mint?

Hello, my name is John McPherson. I work as a contractor for the DOL, and I am trying convert some code I maintain in an application to send output files to a printer. Right now, the code( a bash script) just slowly prints the output file on the screen, and the customer wants to have it sent to the printer instead. I work on a 64-bit Oracle( Sun) system with Solaris 11 as the Operating System. I have tried the command lpr -h -l $showfl in the bash script, but that just errors off without printing. I kept searching online …

Hello, my name is John McPherson. I work for the DOL, in the Uneployment Insurance office, and I am working on an application that uses bash scripts as the controller running the application. I am trying to add a capability to email the output files to the users, which are the states that use the application. The case statement chooses which state to send the email to( or optionally not send an email if state does not want it), is erroring off. I am not sure what the problem is with code. The case statemnet in question is: ## print …

Hello, I currently have a RedHat Linux version 6.4 running on a physical server (HP). However, recently it has started to show a failing disk problem, with some failures at software level as well like the terminal not opening properly, and while waiting for a new replacement disk to be made available, I would like to be able to backup a whole image of the server, and eventually run it on VirtualBox or VMWare should the disk fail completely. Any tool (free preferably) or manual steps which can be useful in my case? Thanks.

Linux Mint So I'm trying to learn French but I'm running into some complications when it comes to finding a good keyboard layout. Here are the layouts that I've tried so far: English (US) English (international Alt Gr dead keys) English (UK, international with dead keys) English (UK, extended WinKeys) So far all have fallen short of what I need. I think only one of these listed above will allow me to type in the French c with a tail character ç. Most of the rest allow áéíóú, the problem here is that most of these accents are going the …

I'm looking for software that will allow someone at one end to talk into a camera and stream to a Raspberry Pi on the other end. It's going to be a prop for a live action role play game I'm running for later in the year and I'd like to get a jump on figuring out what I'll need. It's literally going to be a "mirror mirror on the wall" type thing. I'll have a laptop/camera or other setup which will allow the person in the mirror to talk to the players through the rasp pi, and a router which …

I have a script that uses grep to extract data from a file. It works but I am now trying to modify the script for pipeline use. If I use the commands: `cat file | myScript.sh` there is an error because the data reaches myScript.sh as it was collected by an echo command (`grep: LINE: No such file or directory`). Is there a way to pass 'file' as an argument to myScript.sh so that grep can work as it was originally meant?

I've always used rsync either directly or through the program LuckBackup to keep everything in sync so again I don't know how this could have happened. Note that …

Someone left a comment on one of my posts similar to, "Linux won't be popular on the Desktop until it runs Windows applications." To which I silently responded, "Huh? and, "You've got to be kidding me." We have WINE for running Windows applications and it works reasonably well for those who care to spend the time to work through any problems with it. I don't think the Linux Community needs to spend time on such an undertaking. Is anyone asking Apple to run Windows applications so that it will gain popularity? No? Then, why should Linux? If you want to …

I've been running Linux for more than 20 years now, and have encountered only one malware. Some jerks called me on the telephone telling me that my computer was broken. I told them where to go, and somehow, they already knew my IP address, and did something to my hard drive that totally borked it. Otherwise than that, seeing that Linux is free of cost, and comes quite complete with all applications needed to accomplish almost any tasks. Getting help is quite easy to obtain, and costs nothing. Updates are automatic, and don't need new versions to be installed once …

So this is a new installation of Fedora. I'd not used Fedora in many months prior to this point. I had Fedora 25. However the Wifi on this machine is quite troublesome. There are times when the connection will stop completely. I will try to load a webpage and the connection just dropped. It tries to reconnect but sometimes it doesn't even show nearby Wifi APs. It just keeps cycling and never shows anything. I am very frustrated.

Hello , I am not Linux and Unix expert so maybe this is a simple question to be answered , I am just not sure. I tried to monitor the CPU usage foreach core when the batch is executed using the top command and then pressing '1'. There I saw something really strange (for me). Initially I saw that job being executed in Cpu5 (it was obvious because it is a job that needs almost 100% of the CPU …
