Hi everyone:

As always I'm very thankful for the help I can get here. Months ago I had problems with my windows and my computer failed. I had to buy a new one, this one has Norton for 60 days. I only have 3 days left. I bought a couple of months ago AVG and paid for the software and the CD, I had problems from the beginning, I couldn't download the software because the license number seemed to be wrong, not according to them. I started a dispute with my bank but they have given me problems too, they don't want to pay me back the $65.14 I charged to my credit card. I have sent 3 emails just this past week to AVG and they have not replied. I realize AVG free edition leaves all the viruses including trojan horse. I need help in two things: first what is the best software to download free? I heard MicroTrend was good but my sister tried it, but when she went to download it they asked her for payment. My second question is: Do you know where I can report AVG as been dishonest, and giving horrible customer service? I know that these days Better Business Bureau is not doing much for anyone. I need your help and thanks again for your kindness.:S

You can try avast, although the avg ones should be alright, I would not recommend norton as they eat up cpu power a lot. I d recommend you to call the AVG support line and complain about it as you paid for it obviously. Now if you want to find some freeware then you nee dot look in the virus and nasties forum where they would have got a lot of them as recommendation. Try it, m sure you ll find more than one to sort your problem out. Personally mcaffee aint that bad either, as i use it and not had any trouble with it so far.

Hi everyone:

I read what's been said and I want to let you know that only last week I emailed AVG 3 times and they did not reply. I will search around to see if there's a Consumer site that can help me. I have my receipt of purchase. I don't think AVG is the best because last time I used it I had many problems, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. It looks like I lost $65 down the drain. My mom also bought AVG and never received any customer service, she had to download the free version because she is an elderly person and couldn't do what I did to go to a computer shop and have it installed because their license number did not work. It's sad that Norton takes a lot of memory because in the 2 months I have used it it never allowed anything bad to come in. I thank you for your feedback. Have a nice weekend.

If you need to scan your computer right now to check for viruses you can always use the free online virus scanner from trend micro house call. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

I as an IT professional have found many free software that will help me delete viruses, spyware, ad-aware and lots of malware off my and users computers. Here are a few that I have used and work pretty good.

1. Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
2. Ad-Aware 2008 - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
3. C.O.M.O.D.O. Suites - http://www.comodo.com/
a. Antivirus - free still in beta but works great, scans, incoming & outgoing e-mails.
b. Fire Wall - This is a great free firewall
c. Anti Malware
d. Website Authentication
e. E-mail Security Certificate
If you need help with cleaning your computer, comodo has a limited offer deal going on. Their security experts will clean your computer for free and also will tune up your computer for free. This is a limited time offer no strings attached. Really.

I am not a comodo representative nor I am getting paid to recommend their software or promote it, but to get all these for free, I think it's worth mentioning.

4. Superantispyware - http://superantispyware.com/
This sweet software will clean Spyware, Adware, Malware, Trojans, Dialers, Worms, KeyLoggers, HiJackers, Parasites, Rootkits and many other types of threats.

Well, try them out and let us know how they work out for you.

I had to buy Norton 2008 and have lost my money with AVG.Does anyone know where I can report them for dishonesty? Thanks again

M not sure where to report about it but some sort of consumer advice organisations would lead you to the right directions, also depends on where you are. There are watchdog organisations to keep an eye on such things but will need to find those out.

I would like to put the other side of AVG! I have used it for many years and found it to begood, both free and paid versions. However I have also had the problem of not being able to use the 'correct' licence number. I solved this by being absolutely sure that I had the right number by copying and pasting. When I typed the number in it did not work, when I pasted it did work.
I also had to redownload and then reinstall then copy and paste. I suspect that the licence input is a one shot job and also there may be hidden codes in the licence number. I have no evidence for this but at least it worked for me doing it this way....ugh but that computing...!!

iope,this helps

I get a lot of info by reading this post. Thanks!

Beleive me all i could get out of this post was that even after paying your hard earned cash you are still not guaranteed the service you paid for.

Thank you guys:

I just had to buy a new antivirus because I could not go online without an antivirus. I appreciate all the comments. I reported the problem to Ripoffreport.com I'm hoping they will help me since I did not know of anyone else and bbb.org does not help much these days. Thanks again, I consider this resolved with you guys.

Hey Johnny, thanks for that post. I'm aware of Ad-Aware but not Spybot. Cheers.

.....I realize AVG free edition leaves all the viruses including trojan horse......

Really? I've been using AVG for years (free version) and i was always of the opinion that it removed all those nasties. I have to put a vote in on the side of AVG because i think they have protected my PC well.
