hello..
Im having this audio problem which I've been having for like 5 days.
My computer doesn't have sounds! When I tried playing a song in winamp, I get this message:
"No sound device found. Please buy a soundcard first (or install proper drivers if you think that you have one)
Error code: 2
Windows error message:
"A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system.""

I checked the wires and they're all ok.
The last thing I did before the sound was gone was downloading many songs from limewire. I have an antivirus and spybot so it should have detected some nasty files.

Please help. I'll very much appreciate it.

Well, your AV has probably failed you. Lime wire is a known source if all the nasties on the internet.
Look in device manager and see if the drivers for your audio device are installed.
What AV are you using? Get a new one, and do a Spyware scan also.

AV? Anti-Virus?
I have norton and AVG. both are always updated. Norton can track both virus and spywares. I've done it like 2 time already since the sounds was gone and there are no viruses or spywares.
Everything under the sound, video and game controllers are working properly.

not many windows errors actually tell you to go out and buy a device when one isn't working!

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) to your desktop.

It's a bad idea to have two AVs installed. I'm surprised you were even able to do so, as most will warn you against it.
Uninstall the Audio device in Device manager and reboot to reinstall.
It couldn't hurt to check all your Volume controls and the connections and look for updated drivers.

It did warn me about it but I didn't listen because my friends said that it's a good idea.
Thank you for that anyway. AVG was my first anti-virus but suddenly, it didnt function well. I noticed there were viruses in my computer. I get Norton. At first, it tracked many viruses but now, it won't anymore. I can feel that my computer is infected.

I'll try uninstalling the audio device and reboot it.

AVG is a fine AV, so I would uninstall Norton ,and reinstall AVG (The newest version)
I'd also get some new friends-creators of these programs don't include warning like that for laughs.

I was hoping you wouldn't ask that .lol

thanks man, you're the best

the volume control button that is usually found in the bottom right corner or near the date and time is not there anymore.
I also have a folder named "Incomplete" which has downloads in it. I deleted this folder. When I shutdown then on my computer, I still have it. When I don't delete it, the downloads will be added.

It's a bad idea to have two AVs installed. I'm surprised you were even able to do so, as most will warn you against it.
Uninstall the Audio device in Device manager and reboot to reinstall.
It couldn't hurt to check all your Volume controls and the connections and look for updated drivers.

hehe.. i have no cd.. how do i reinstall it?

audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, legacy capture video devices, media control devices and video codecs (the one under sound, video and game controllers in device manager) has no remove or uninstall button at the list of buttons to click above. it can only be updated or scanned for hardware changes.. is that normal?

Just right-click these entries and select "Uninstall".
They should be reinstalled when you reboot. If not, the drivers are available at the manufacturer's site.

It doesn't have any uninstall button even when right clicking. I've uninstall it though through safe mode then installed it again.
Unfortunately, there is still no sound.:(:(

audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, legacy capture video devices, media control devices and video codecs

that is all default stuff from winxp load ,you need to install the drivers for the device ,from a disk that came with the motherboard if you have onboard sound .or the sound device if its a pci device .

As for you hijackthis log i still haven,t looked at it really hard ,but for the most it looks a bit weird ,but normal to!
the wierd pard is this stuff running ,
