Hard Drive Copy?

Hey I have 2 different hard drives on my pc and one of them has the Windows 7 Beta, and the other has Windows 7 Ultimate full retail version and I was wondering if there is anyway I can get all my files and games and stuff from my Windows 7 Beta onto my Windows 7 Ultimate without having to reinstall or redownload everything?

Have you tried to update the beta with the ultimate, if it will update, you should have everything the same as in beta, you should not lose anything. You could do a drive image backup first if you are worried. If it will not update, look with Google at file mitigation software to help you.

If he updates he will have Windows 7 Ultimate on two drives, one drive with all his programs and files on it and the other with just a copy of 7. He would not have two OS's on the same drive.
That is, if Windows Beta will allow Windows 7 Ultimate to upgrade it, the beta version will be no more, it will become Windows 7 Ultimate.

There is file migration software for stuff like that. I would try using your Windows 7 Ultimate disk to upgrade your Beta OS first, though.

Have you investigated "Profile Migration Tools?"

This might be helpful... although not designed for what you are wanting to do... could possibly be used to move from one HD to another. You would have to send the C: drive items over by yourself, but the tool should be the same as on the original. (meaning it will think all your games or whatever are installed and look for them in the same location as they were in the other profile.)

Yes you can, you can partition the drive and have two OS's run on the same drive with no issues.

Also, you can run two OS's on the same drive without a partition but some files might become shared or over written and cause errors in windows, BUT, it will run.

Hello Anpippin,

When migrating from Windows Vista to Windows 7 you will have the option to select "custom" or "upgrade" install when prompted. By selecting the "upgrade" option, your documents and applications will follow and carry over through the install process. If you select, "custom" however you will be able to perform a clean install and all applications will have to be reinstalled manually -- documents will be moved to a folder entitled "windows.old".
