Can ping everywhere but no internet

I have spent days reading different threads and trying lots of stuff, but nothing has helped my problem. My setup is a home network with one desktop PC wired to an ActionTec router-modem on ATT DSL and 2 PC laptops on wireless. Everything works on the two laptops, but I cannot get internet on the desktop. However, I can successfully ping everything from the desktop including the router/gateway, the other computers, other IP addresses and web addresses.

I thought it might be the desktop-to-router cable or the wired side of the router, but I connected a laptop to the router with the same cable and turned off the wireless and used the LAN Connection and the internet worked fine.

The desktop even does automatic updates for BitDefender in the background, but the browser (IE8) won't open anything. When I click on Diagnose Connection Problems, it says I may have a Firewall problem. But I have the same problem with both the Windows firewall and the Router firewall OFF.

Give it a full scan with Mbam and see if it finds anything. Google will find Mbam!

Luckily I already had Mbam on the hard drive (since I cannot access the internet to Google or download). Was able to complete update and do a full scan:

A Quick Scan done on 12/31 found (Trojan.FakeAlert) which was "Quarantined and deleted successfully."

Please clarify - Since I have no internet on the desktop, do you mean to download hijackthis onto my laptop, save it to a jump drive and transfer it to the desktop? Or some other way?

Open up your browser and click on settings, then internet options. Then click on connections then LAN settings. Put a tick into automatically detect settings and see if that makes any difference!

Good news! The Automatically detect setings box was already checked. On a hunch I UN-checked "Use a proxy server for your LAN", closed and reopened IE and it worked. I just rebooted the computer and the internet is still working!!!

Your system has been infected in the past so I would suggest you use caution it the future!

Also, switching from IE to FireFox would be a good idea as it is much safer to use, especially if you add WOT to it!

The Answer to your query is simple try to open Antivirus installed on your system you might have blocked incoming and outgoing traffic.Try to check for settings on the installed Antivirus on your Desktop PC and make necessary changes and also make changes in IE Settings as below :

IE---Tools----Options-----Connections-----LanSettings-------Automatically Detect Settings and can even enter proxy address provided through ISP and click k and close the browser and open a new browser and try to access Internet it will work.
