When I start Outlook it prompts me for a network user name and password. The password is correct but I get prompted again every 5 minutes. I have logged this failure and it is "Authentication Failure (7)". How would I fix the problem? Thank you in advance for any information.

Hi,

What type of Email service are you using? (POP3, HTTP, MS Exchange)
When you enter the password the first time, does Outlook work during those 5 minutes?

POP3 and no it doesn't work. It won't logon to the incoming mail server. I know the password and username are correct also. When I Test my Account Settings everything else works but the logon to my incoming mail server.

I am guessing this email is from your ISP
I would try giving them a call and making sure the username and password are correct. When I switched ISPs about 2 years ago, they gave me the wrong password (typo on their end)

Ok I will check tomorrow since I am getting off work in 15 mins. Thanks a lot for your help

No problem
Let me know if this solves your problem :)

Yes it did solve my problem. I called my ISP and there was a password conflict so it is fixed. Now though I am having problems adding a MS Exchange e-mail account when I try I get an error stating the connection to the server is unavailable and also outlook must be connected or online to complete this action. Any suggestions for this problem?

Hi Klyde,

Do you have a MS Exchange server to connect to? If you are using the email address from your ISP (POP3) you do not need to setup a MS Exchange mailbox.

Yes I do have an MS Exchange Server and I got the e-mail working again:) Thanks a lot CodyH

No problem :)

Hi,

Even if you forget the password for the encrypted PST file, you can still decrypt it by using Advanced Outlook Repair. Advanced Outlook Repair can decrypt all the encrypted data and convert it into a new PST file that doesn't require a password.
