I've been having this problem for a while now, and I'm not quite sure why.
but i downloaded the required shockwave player to play the flash games i wanted and upon installing the player i clicked on the flash game but the program did not open up...basically nothing happened.
I also want to know if Shockwave player is the same as Adobe flash player.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes they are one and the same.
You will need to open the .swf file with internet explorer.
Rightclick, then click "open with" and select Internet explorer. If it is not shown on the cascaded-context menu list, then you will have to select it manually from the list in the next window. If the window pops up asking you to use web service or select the program yourself, choose "select the program from a list". Scroll down and select "Internet explorer" and check "always use ...." below.
