I have just tried removing search.us.com from my computer both in chrome and firefox - using windows XP operating system
I have tried the following programes which all say they can remove it
Spyhunter
Hitman Pro
Malwarebytes
with no success

Has anyone a suggestion on how to get rid of it?
Thanks

There are a few nasties I can see in that log. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/ download and run that. It will take complete control of your computer and may take a while to run. Do not interrupt it, even if it looks like nothing is happening for a while. Once it has completed post it's log.

I have attached the file FYI
The search.us.com seems to have disappeared
Many thanks for your assistance will wait until your examinf the file before closing
Thanks again

Just a quick follow up FYI

Search.us.com has gone from chrome but remains in Firefox
Tried deleting it from the home page but it just reappears

I am off to work now, I will post again later on.

Fixed Firefox it had aa reset button which deleted it when utilized
Awaity post - no rush

Can you post a fresh HJT log, I can have a look at it and see if there is anything left over.

The above entries need to be fixed by HJT by placing a tick in the box next to each then hit the fix checked button and you are all sorted.

How is the computer running now?

I have deleted the files you recommended (actually the missing files) andthe computer runs well.
Many thanks for your assistance - it is truly appreciated
Brian

No worries, I am happy to help! :)

Re the removal of this key, O20 - Winlogon Notify: dimsntfy - %SystemRoot%\System32\dimsntfy.dll (file missing)...
I consider the proper course to be to restore the file, a part of maintaining system security, and to NOT delete the launch key.
DIMSNTFY.DLL
The Digital Identity Management Service Notification Handler starts via Winlogon Notify and appears in Windows\System3. It's part of a team used to verify digital certificates.

And again... http://ezinearticles.com/?Dimsntfy-DLL-Errors-Fix---How-To-Repair-The-Dimsntfy-DLL-Error-On-Your-PC&id=5494857
It is actually a protected file, and so must be missing from the cache also.
