Asus Laptop with Win 8. Intel GMA4000 with updated drivers. Signal only works while running on battery. after plugging in laptop my Sony Bravia tv goes black and shows "unsupported signal'. I tried to fool around with the graphics settings but to no avail.

Have you tried rebooting, including a cold shutdown and restart, with the tv plugged in? Or plugging the TV into the laptop after you have plugged in the laptop and done a cold reboot as above?
