Hello,

Perhaps someone can point to the right direction in setting up Active Directory (running on Windows 2003) in a typical home network.

Home network meaning a regular commercial wi-fi router that is connected to the internet via cable internet from an ISP who issues dynamic IP Addresses (btw).

What are the requirements as far as Domain registration, DNS, etc?

Thanks!

Roy

Wow sorry your very lost. Are you trying to setup active directory or a server to host a website the 2 are totally different. you don't need to install active directory to run a website. if you are trying to run a website register the domain with a registrar point it to you comcast ip address setup iis on a 2003 windows machine or linux box.

If you want to install active directory boot into a windows server edition click on start run type in dcpromo

Hi Roy,
Since its a home network, don't worry about domain registration. Your wi-fi router provides DHCP & DNS by default. Active Directory will not work with your router's DNS. TO setup Active directory go to Start> Run> dcpromo and follow the wizard, it will ask you if you have a DNS server already and if not it can create one for you. Ask the wizard to create it for you and proceed from there. In your Router's settings under the DHCP server settings you need to modify the DNS IP to your SERVER's IP, otherwise workstation's won't be able to join the active directory. I think that should be enuf to get you on your way post back here if you have more questions.

Good Luck
