OK, I feel a little dumb asking this question, but networking is not my strong point.
At work, I have shortcuts on my desktop to files that live on the server here at work.
I would like to be able to bring my computer home, boot it up and have those shortcuts right there and working just like here at work. I know how to do remote desktop and use log me in, but this is a little different. Is VPN the way to do this, or is it something else.

Hello,
You really need to talk to your network admin and see what they recommend or have setup first. VPN is the way to go but you are not going to be able to use it without their approval/assistance.
