I have a wired/wireless network. laptops are wireless but the 2 desktops are hardwired. I have a router. All of a sudden I lose the network connection for about a second. You don't notice it when you're online browsing and such, but you sure notice it when you're online gaming (get booted out of the game). Any ideas as to why all of a sudden I'm losing the connection? Thanks

I've had a Linksys 4 port router working fine with 4 computers attached for about a year. Had a bad storm and no computer could connect to internet. Just figured it got fried and bought a new Linksys 4 port router, same model. Hooked everything back up. But only 3 of the 4 computers can get on the internet. I can't think of anything else to do and pray someone has an idea. On the offending computer (a 2G Intel machine), I tried a different CAT cable...one from a computer that could hook up to the internet, and it still …

Hello. I am very new to programming, and obviously very ignorant to the details that follow. So I will have many questions on a variety of subjects in my time using this forum. My first question, however, should be very simple. Is online hosting from a different site better than hosting a site on your own computer? What is the differences? Thank you for any responses which you may provide.

Now, I'm sure I'm offending about 100,000 people by making this post, but "suck it up." Novell (and Windows, for this case) will defeat Linux. Maybe not in a year, but it will come eventually. Why? When you go to a store (or e-store), you can go and pick up a Novell or Windows title. Get home, pop the CD in, and install it. With lots of ease, and hardly and hassle. Now, I know what a lot of you are thinking. You can also go into a store and purchase a Linux title. But you can't just come back …

Wow it seems every post I read starts out with "Hey I am a newbie to this, I need some help" then it is continued by a long long long paragraph without any commas, periods, and so on. Well here I go, but i'll try to keep it short and sweet! It'll be difficult though. Newbie here, I would like to go to a wireless setup. Here is what I have; Compaq Presario 5140 400mhz ~350ram, 8 gig hard drive, WinXP Dell Inspiron 5100 2.6ghz, 512ram, 40gig, WinXP Dell desktop 2.6ghz, 256ram, 40gig, WinXP Playstation 2 online Maybe another laptop …

I just noticed that whenever I go to a certain website (I've not noticed this with any other website...ever), it gives me the "this page can not be displayed" error message. That in itself isn't a big deal...except now I can not go to ANY pages after that. All I get are those same error messages...for every site. My connection is still good, as my outlook continues to work. This only happens to my computer (on a small network of 4 computers). I'm running IE6 on XP...I'm on a small network routed off a fractional T-1. There is a firewall …

I'm tryng to connect my Linksys 4 port router to my Motorola SB4200 SURFboard. My problem is I can't get past step one. It says to connect the ethernet cable to the modem. Well, my modem only has one port for this size cable which is needed for the internet cable. Do I need some type of splitter or something that will allow me to plug the internet cable and my ethernet cable for the router into this one port? Sorry, I'm no tech., that's for sure. Thanks much, Ken

I have a new Linksys Wireless-G WAP. I'm trying to figure out how to set it up so that rather than all surfing traffic on the network showing up as the Static IP that is assigned to the WAP, I'd like it to just appear blocked. Any thoughts?

I have 5 computers running with IP address 192.168.x.x. Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0. While doing the network checking for the TCP/IP communication, I ping to respective com, and are succeccfully with all the reply to respective com. But on the next day, The 5 computers are lossing communication and unable to ping to each other and loop back and local IP address (itself). I suspect maybe it because I have installs firewall software that causes the IP address: 127.0.0.1 by mistaken or maybe have been configuration by auto setting from firewall software? Kindly advise. Thank you

I am working in a small office network situation, and everything worked fine before last night when I installed a new copy of WinXP (because I needed SP1 [which requires legal copy]). Well now the main computer can nolonger access internet, or the network, but the rest of the computers can. After looking around and comparing, it appears I had on whats called APIPA, which im sure you all know. Anyways, I read around, and apparently I turned it off now...(reg tweak), and now it just says "invalid IP adress". Why wont this computer just connect …

I am about to network 3-4 computers in my home and I was just wondering if there was any way that I can connect them straight through a hub, without a server. I am running a long run (approx. 250-275' to a switch and then another 250-275' to another switch) Each end switch will be connected to a computer. I would like to know which type of cables I should use. The wire will be sealed inside PVC pipe and buried. The total run will be approx. 500' with a switch in the middle because I was told that I needed one. I am confused about the solid, stranded, Plenum Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Flawed Routers Flood University of Wisconsin Internet Time Server. (link)
ABSTRACT In May 2003, the University of Wisconsin - Madison found that it was the recipient of a continuous large scale flood of inbound Internet traffic destined for one of the campus' public Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers. The flood traffic rate was hundreds-of-thousands of packets-per-second, and hundreds of megabits-per-second. Subsequently, we have determined the sources of this flooding to be literally hundreds of thousands of real Internet hosts throughout the world. However, rather than having originated as a malicious distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, the root cause is actually a serious …
