I am running a long run (approx. 250-275' to a switch and then another 250-275' to another switch) Each end switch will be connected to a computer. I would like to know which type of cables I should use. The wire will be sealed inside PVC pipe and buried. The total run will be approx. 500' with a switch in the middle because I was told that I needed one. I am confused about the solid, stranded, Plenum Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Flawed Routers Flood University of Wisconsin Internet Time Server. (link)
ABSTRACT In May 2003, the University of Wisconsin - Madison found that it was the recipient of a continuous large scale flood of inbound Internet traffic destined for one of the campus' public Network Time Protocol (NTP) servers. The flood traffic rate was hundreds-of-thousands of packets-per-second, and hundreds of megabits-per-second. Subsequently, we have determined the sources of this flooding to be literally hundreds of thousands of real Internet hosts throughout the world. However, rather than having originated as a malicious distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, the root cause is actually a serious …

Hey, I currently operate a routed, wired home network. There is one XP, and two 98SE PCs on the network. I'm using a Linksys router. I'm trying to add a new Compaq notebook PC to the network (operating on XP). During installation, I set everything up to automatically get the IP/DNS settings for the cable network. I went through the add to a network process, and the LAN PROPERTIES even say that the machine is connected. However, the Internet just will not work. Is there any step-by-step tutorial someone can give me, or if someone had a similar problem, how …

Ugh. I tried to demonstrate the IBuySpy portal from school today, but for whateveer reason, it won't connect to my IP. I've given out the URL in the past (http://theqube.d2g.com:801/PortalVBVS), but for one reason or another, its just being a pain and gives me a 404 when I try to connect from school. Their network is occasionally pissy, so if anyone can just test it and prevent me from going mildly insane, that'd be great. -Ian **Winner of the PCMK LAN Party**...although, its not hard when you're only playing with 2 other people who haven't touched UT2K3 before =P

So what... They block port 80. Big whoop. Get a DNS client and shut up (lol). OOL has to be hands down the best ISP for the money outside Sweeden. I know all the capped @home people drool over our 100k - 175k upload speed, and our 400k download (those are actual speeds not some overstated number in bits.. this is true kilobytes). Comments...

Tek I dont want to make you made I am a Novell freak big time. I respect Novell but it seems like there going down slowly even though they released Novell 6 sometime early last year. Novell is best for managing users but the cost of it is just not worth it no more. People have a hard time with Windows 2000 Server as it is, and have a hard time buying it. $1000!!! (10) your crazy. Novell is like (25) $4600. The only companies I see using Novell are big companies Courts/Hosiptals otherwise there gone man. I see less …

Just wondering if there is a way to cap or disable the upload portion of our connection. We share a connection in our apartment, and our DSL provider is cracking down on customers who take up too much upload bandwidth. Anything we can do to throttle our upload to help... Thanks... Well semester finished for Novell but in fall going to take it again there getting off P1's 133mhz so now we can really install the shit without 2000 errors. Going to take it again because me and the teacher are good friends and just why not I have the book so only cost me $30 bucks. Hopefully now I will understand what the hell is going on lol with more complex stuff.

I love Window's Remote Desktop feature. Its the greatest thing, especially when your in school. I have one problem though. After 5 or so minutes, areas of the screen get big black boxes on them. The only way to fix it, is to reconnect. Anyone else expirenceing this? By the way, this is through Windows Remote Destop Web Connection (tsweb). Thanks in advance! :)

Well I finished Novell class is over after installing and upgrading and installing over and over and playing with it and the user management had a good time. ZEN Works is the biggest plus of all of them. That is one of the best prog/utilities I ever seen. ARC is cool along with there other prog/utilities like iPrint etc etc. You told me tek when I finish this class I will be teaching you something the only thing I learned is I still far behind you in Novell but I'm coming!
