some times when i switch on my compaq presario crt monitor,screen gradually changes whitish in color and i am not able view properly.can please tell me what is the fault.has the picture tube gone wrong?i purchased it in 2005.

Yeah, it's basically dying.
The tube is probably OK, but the electronics in the back controlling the brightness are shot.
Unless you know someone who can repair these things for free, getting it repaired commercially will probably cost as much as a new LCD monitor (think about all the extra desk space).
