I want to install 4GB of RAM into my computer but the manufacturer said it could only accommodate 2GB..... What would be the consequences?

Most limitations are set by the BIOS, so if its max at 2GB, plugging more in would either not boot, or shows inccorect amount, some cases it will just show 2Gb and some cases it will show some funny numbers.
