My Sony vaio vgn laptop just stopped working yesterday. The screen is blank on start up but the power and battery light are on? I tried taking out battery and starting with power adapter but still no life. Please please help.

How old is it?
Did you do anything unusual or have anything unusual happen the last time you used it successfully? Did you download any new programs or install any new hardware? Did it fall (or could someone have dropped it without your knowing)? Does it make any unusual sounds?
With the lack of information behind your question there is little to suggest other than to try to boot up while repeatedly clicking on the F8 key as soon as you press the start button. If you're lucky, it should open a menu with assorted choices to make--from there you're on your own.
