hi,My Compaq presario does not read CD & DVD

hi, not much info to go on ,what is exact model#.is it a desktop or laptop ,when did it stop reading the disks .
did you do anything yet to try and fix it ,besides comeing here and tell us its not reading dvds'or cds'
check device manager to make sure correct drivers are installed

Adding to what caperjack said about device manager, make sure there are no yellow exclamation marks or red X besides the name of the drivers.

could also be the drive itself, and sometimes but rare if on that machine a disk is put in that it cant read (blue ray etc ) then it hangs and you need to follow the above advice re reinstalling drivers etc;

If the problem is with the drive and not the drivers and CD itself, you can always buy a new CD drive and replace it yourself. It is very easy as there is only 1 to 2 screws.
