Any advice/warnings about PC Health & Driver Manager software offers (often supposedly free!) and which to avoid & which can be safely recommended, please?

Avoid all of them, that's my advice. If you need drivers or want to speed up your computer there are many things you can do that are far far far more effective than all of those programs.
