While focusing on relevant keywords you should also make sure that the content as a whole is compelling and fresh. Along with Keyword density, the SEs are always looking for new content to crawl.

Yes , you are absolutely right.I have also noticed this fact.The keywords play a very important role in promoting the website..If we don't provide a suitable keyword then our site lags behind.when anyone searches for the keywords related to our website.Due to wrong selection of the keywords, the page ranking of the site gets hampered. This ultimately affects the profit, investment ratio.
Also you said about the visitors.It depends on the organisation that whether it is capable to bind them to their sites or not.For this again, the web maintenance is essential, so that it always gives a new look to the site.

Correct Selection of Keywords is the most important thing in any SEO campaign. Now, I think Keyword Density is not considered very essential for Google to bring your site up in Google Rankings. Consider using it properly in Page Title of your Website. Make unique contents in your website. Update the site at regular intervals. Build links for white hat SEO. These combined together would make your campaign working well.
