Hey all - I have searched the internet with no luck, so I finally resorted to here to ask for information. I am trying to find a way to find the time it takes to shut down, sleep, and wake from sleep for a Windows 7 install. I understand that there are solutions (BootRacer, Soluto, even the Windows Event Viewer) to find out the boot time for Windows, but I cannot find out how to time the rest of these! Thanks in advance.

Before I begin, I want to apologize if this is in the wrong board. Please move it if it is. A friend of mine was going to toss a Dell PowerEdge 2950 and so I gladly took it off his hands. It has a SAS bay on the front that fits 6 hard drives. I have 4x 73GB SAS drives that fit and are recognized by the SAS utility when the machine boots. I am able to see all of the drives when I attempt to install Windows Server. However, they all show up as separate drives. I want to …

This is kinda like the word association also located in the Geek's Lounge. What you do is take the song listed before you and make another song and artist with the word it it. example: 1: Heaven - Los Lonely Boys 2: Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin You can't do something like this: 1: Rock n' Roll - Led Zeppelin 2: Black Dog - Led Zeppelin Anyone can think of another song by Led Zeppelin. However, you can do something like this: 1: Face Down - Red Jumpsuit Apparatus 2: Give it Away - The Red Hot Chili Peppers …

My mouse just randomly stopped working under Vista (Home Premium). It works on the login screen but not anywhere else. It's stuck in the middle of the screen. I had to tab my way to this posting screen to type this. By the way, it's my Synaptics built in touchpad mouse.

I have to rewrite the atoi function - that is, convert a string given by a command line argument and convert it to an integer. It works for single digit numbers, but when you give it two or more digits, it only converts the first number. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, as the concept seems simple. Take in a string, change it's type, print it on the screen with a new format character. Right?
#include <stdio.h> int myatoi( char *x ); int main( int argc, char *argv[] ) { char *x = argv[1]; int y; printf( "Character : …

Running: Windows 7 Home Premium. I am not sure if I am posting this in the correct board, so please move this if I am incorrect in my post placement. I am trying to set Allegro up, for programming a 2D game in C (which is why I chose this board to post in). Allegro seemed like a good fit, because it supports MIDI and the syntax seems relatively simple. In a build tutorial for MinGW/Allegro (http://wiki.allegro.cc/index.php?title=Build/MinGW), I installed/built everything up to libvorbis. libogg compiled and installed just fine using MSYS. However, when trying to ./configure libvorbis, I am met …

This is for a CS course I am taking. I'm stuck. I need to write a program that takes a number and tallies up how many cycles it takes of multiplying the digits until it is a single digit number. ie: 715 = 7 * 1 * 5 = 35 = 3 * 5 = 15 = 1 * 5 = 5 Persistence is 3. 27 = 2 * 7 = 14 = 1 * 4 = 4 Persistence is 2. Etc. What I have written works for some numbers, but not all. For example, double digit numbers such as …

Windows 7 - VMWare Player 3.1 I recently got Ubuntu 11.04 installed and set up nicely in a virtual machine. I have fixed resolution problems and removed the top bar from the application so it looks almost like an actual native GNOME desktop. However, as I will be using this VM in class, I really don't want to wait for all of Windows to boot and then load VMWare and select the guest OS. When VMWare was setting itself up, it created a user account for itself (my machine no longer automatically logs me in, I need to click on …

I stopped using Linux for a while, but recently began a computer science course in college and decided to install Ubuntu 11.04 into VMWare. I needed to download an IDE. I type:
user@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install geany Reading package lists... Error! E: Encountered a section with no Package: header E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_main_i18n_Translation-en E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
I remembered about the "clean", "clean all", and "update" flags. So I tried them. I didn't copy everything, but there were more errors higher up in the terminal.
user@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get clean user@ubuntu:~$ …

Is it possible to set a desktop background using batch? Meaning have a batch file open on start-up and then change the background to a jpeg of my choice? For example, my school's pcs are not set to retain the background after log-off. I always have to set my UNIX background every time I boot up, as does everyone else. I think it would be a nice feature to have a batch script move itself to /startup and then start and change the background.

Ah! Never mind! I forgot you could embed classes such as:
class Heroes(): class Lords(): class Phill(): hp = 25 >>> Heroes.Lords.Phill.hp 25
------------------------------------------------------ I am attempting to write an RPG in Python. I am not worrying about the battle system or mapping quite yet, and am more focused on the internal variable handling. My biggest concern is not how to set each variable, but how to format my code to make this as efficient as possible. Is it better practice to create a class for the heroes and then a function for each hero? Or is a class for …

I am looking for a freeware/open source equivalent of FL Studio 7. Meaning something that can create music using the computer, and can save to mp3. It would need a guitar, bass, and drums kind of feature. I need a freeware one because, frankly, I can't afford the $1000 to buy the professional version of FL. It would also need chord capabilities when making loops and tracks with the guitar, piano, and bass (called the Piano Roll in FL). Anyone know of one? ** By the way, I run Vista, so Vista capable is a must **

Using the tutorial found here: http://www.daniweb.com/code/snippet216550.html, I have begun the graphic portion of my game. I have many .gif battler sprites loaded into variables in my project. However, all of these battlers are right-facing. I need some of them to be flipped to be left-facing to be on the hero's side. Is there a Tkinter command to flip the images when the program is loaded, or will I have to duplicate every battler sprite and flip them myself?

Can it be done!? I just found out about this version of Ubuntu called Ubuntu Studio (based on 7.04), and I want to know if I can do it without losing everything in /home/alex. I don't care about applications, I just want music and documents. Without insane amounts of DVDs or backups, can I upgrade (or downgrade, if you will)? EDIT: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/UpgradingFromGutsy Found that. Is that what I'm looking for?

1) Is it possible to install Ruby (the compiler) onto a flashdrive and run it on another machine without adding the registry edits? Is there like a portable copy of the compiler that I can use? I need Ruby at school, but I can't install anything. 2) I think my Ruby is dead. I try to run a really simple program and Ruby hangs whenever I use gets()... For example:
name = gets("What is your name? ") puts name
Inputted in SciTE makes the command line for Ruby pop up, then it freezes, only to let me exit Ruby and …

Hello! My mother recently got a Palm Zire 31 for free, which she passed on to me, as I am a PDA user. Now, the problem: I don't have the damn cable to plug it into my computer. My camera uses the same type of cable, and allows me to plug it into my computer. Now, it's plugged in, but it doesn't have a "HOTSYNC" button on the cable. I can't add any games, contacts, apps, music, photos, ect to my Zire 31... I can charge it, however, using my moterola charger (LOL). I can't buy a Zire cable. The …

Would it be possible? Not exactly a typical sequencer, but something like this: I would record every note on my electric and acoustic guitar, bass, drums, and piano (essentially creating samples of each instrument that I own). Then export them to .wav and organize them by folder (/data/guitar/electric/string6fret1_F.wav). Then using a picture of each instrument made in Paint or similar program, have the user click the frets, drum, or note (piano) and have it place the note onto a playlist of notes. Then, File -> Export -> MP3 or WAV would export the song to a file. Would this be …

...Not quite. But for now, it is. I've decided to pull out the old XP disc and reinstall Windows. I've been thinking about my motives for actually having Linux, and they just weren't enough. Pros: Open Source -- I love that aspect, a community effort to improve the product. The look -- so many themes, window managers, Compiz Fusion alone -- great eye candy. There are many more, I'm just not up for typing more. Cons: Compatibility with my iPod touch wasn't there -- that was a huge one. I couldn't stand having a $400 paperweight sitting in the corner …

Let's list pros and cons of each, comparing one to the other in the process. What do you like about VB6 over VB.NET, and vice versa? What do you find easy to do in one, that you have trouble with in the other?
