I am using an Arduino to prototype a project in which the real time is important. My device has a real time clock and internet access. I have some NTP code I can use to get the current time in GMT and I can apply an offset for the timezone the device is in, so I can set the RTC accurately enough. What I am unclear about is whether summer time applies. How can I know that from within my code?

Kudos for the Favorite Tags and Favorite Forums options on the Finder menu. Are they new? I hadn't seen them before, but they are a significant improvement. They very much improve my view of the new design. Before I saw them I was drifting away but now I am more likely to hang around. One suggestion for a further improvement would be to give me some control over what appears in the main activity list. Let me decide whether I want to know that John Doe has updated his profile (I am never interested in that so would prefer never …

I am using the MySQL C API and having problems defining a stored procedure. MY SQL script works fine in MySQL Workbench but the same script fails in my own software. A test script which shows the problem is: SET @OLD_UNIQUE_CHECKS=@@UNIQUE_CHECKS, UNIQUE_CHECKS=0; SET @OLD_FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=@@FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS, FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0; SET @OLD_SQL_MODE=@@SQL_MODE, SQL_MODE='TRADITIONAL,ALLOW_INVALID_DATES'; CREATE SCHEMA IF NOT EXISTS `Junk` ; USE `Junk` ; DROP procedure IF EXISTS `sp_test`; DELIMITER $$ USE `Junk` $$ CREATE PROCEDURE `sp_test` (IN param1 tinyint, IN param2 varchar(10), OUT NewID INT) BEGIN INSERT INTO test (field1 , field2) VALUES(param1, param2) ; SET NewID = LAST_INSERT_ID() ; END $$ DELIMITER ; SET …

The 2nd monitor on my Windows 7 laptop stopped working today. It just showed black when I started the laptop. It has previously been working fine and I have not recently made any hardware or software changes. So far I have tried: - Checking video & power cables are connected correctly - Removed the video cable & re-connect. Both monitor and laptop detect the cable removal & replacement but monitor still black. - Windows-Shift-Left Arrow and Windows-Shift-Right Arrow seem to move the active window between screens. Still can't see anything on the 2nd monitor though. - Reboot. No change. - …

I am working on a web scraping project and I have to work through a series of log-in pages before I can get to the data I want. My app is basically duplicating the HTTPS requests that are sent by a browser when I use the site conventionally. To help with this I am tracing the requests & responses generated by a browser. At one point an HTTPS GET produces a 302 response which has me confused. As I understand it, the 302 response should specify an alternative URL in the location field, and the GET should be re-submitted to …

What is the process when a domain name lapses and goes into redemption? At what point is it available for purchase by a new owner? Is it possible to automate the purchase to try to ensure I buy the moment it becomes available? (So that nobody else beats me to buy the domain).

I am planning a new business venture involving an online store. This is an area where I have no experience (my background is in desktop software & device drivers, not web sites). I would welcome advice on 2 aspects of this project. First, I could learn about this and set up everything myself, or I could pay someone to set things up. Doing it myself is attractive because I could then maintain & develop the site more easily. Getting someone else to do it is attractive because an experienced professional should do a better job, faster. Plus I will definitely …
