After reformatting and getting everything back to normal I decided to make a rescue disk for my AVG anti virus, after using the only two floppys I realized that I wasn't going to have enough to finish the job, so I decided to explore the alternative...a CD. After three unsuccessful attempts I decided to just wait until I purchased more floppy disks and closed the program, that's when I noticed three new icons on the desktop in the form of file folders with the titles that I had created for the disks. I was abel to right click and then …

It has been suggested that I flash my BIOS in an attempt to correct a problem, I have also been warned that this could leave me with more problems than I started with, so how can I avoid this other than the obvious not doing it? And How is flashing the BIOS accomplished?

This morning Paris Hilton was release from jail to serve her full sentence as a house arrest. Paris was released for "health" reasons, there is no mention of what that constitutes...perhaps threats from other prisoners if she didn't quit bitching about the lack of room service? She will have to serve the full sentence of forty odd days, she will have to wear the ankle bracelet and be confined to her home. Poor baby. I have to admit to being a little disappointed in our judicial system, first she gets her sentence cut in half for good behavior which was …

All of us have things that annoy us, like the sibling that puts a carton of milk back in the refrigerator with just a couple of drops left. Or the girl friend that squeezes the toothpaste tube in the middle while you squeeze it from the end. And then there is the worst of them all, people making threads like this. What annoys you?

I was reading the thread here about basketball and remember an old joke about the Sacramento Kings and thought I would share it here. For those who keep up with pro basket ball will remember that until this last year they had actually been doing well, prior to that...we don't talk about it here. At the end of Desert Storm General Schwarzkopf was taking his last walk through the desert when he found an old oil lamp in the sand. He brushed it off and much to his amazement a genie appeared and told him that he would be granted …

I'm glad to see that our legal system is unbiased and will treat Paris Hilton just like anyone else, or at least that's what I thought until I heard that they have reduced her jail time by half. I heard that this was based on the over crowding of the jails and her "good behavior". I thought you didn't get rewarded for good behavior unless you were serving a sentence. Since most of the members that post in this forum are of the younger generation I would to know how to you feel about Paris Hilton as a teen role …

Well it's official, I'm now enrolled and am registered in my first semester of classes and will be a college student by the end of August...again. I had thought about taking a simple class to try to slip back into the thought process of being a student, but it seems they no longer offer advanced underwater basket weaving, so I will have to substitute this with Computer Configuration and repair, it's almost the same thing.;) Having graduated nine years previously I will not have to take any of the general ed. classes, this is just fine by me as all …

I live in a rural area off I-80 about 3,000" elevation in the Ca. foothills, our gas prices are always about ten to fifteen cents more because we are the last gas station for many miles heading into the Sierras and the only small town for many more miles. Today the two more expensive stations are charging $3.45 and $3.57, one of the attendants has gotten into the spirit of the deal and holds a balck mask against his face when he takes payment for gas. California has always been more expensive than most other states with excuses of having …

It has been suggested my another member that teens are unjustly stereotyped as being bad drivers. Personally I don't believe this because it conflicts with the current general consensus that the stereotypical bad driver is either a woman or a minority. My contention is that teens aren't bad drivers, but they are inexperienced drivers. The sad truth statistically is that the largest amount of teen deaths is because of automobile accidents, and most of these accidents are related to speeding. There are always going to be contributing factors involved, such as distractions, the time of day, and of course drugs …

Out of the seven web sites that I visit or use on a regular basis this site is consistently the slowest to open pages. Granted I'm using a dial up connection that averages 26.4kbps, but the other sites open much faster. Can anyone here explain why this is?

My free trial with Panda Antivirus Platinum is twenty two days away from expiring, and I'm not 100% sold on them, there were some less than satisfactory events. I have a grand total of six months experience with my home computer, so I'm going to have to rely on our comunity for some advise. I realize that it may be difficult to get a non-biased answer here, but I'm looking for recommendations about antivirus providers. What kind of prices are normal, and for how long? What about the freebees like AVG? I have about three weeks to make a choice, …

As advised, I went to Tiger Direct and looked at mobo bundles and found what looks like a good deal. The board is an Abit KV7-V Via Socket A ATX, with a AMD Athlon XP 2900+ processor, and a Crucial 512MB PC32000 DDR module. It's priced at $199.00 with a $70.00 rebate, this looks like a good deal, but the reviews for the board were very mixed, and I couldn't find any information on the Athlon. I would really appreciate some input, is this deal too good to be true? dcc

For those of you who are not aware there is a last ditch technique that can be used to try to extract information from a failing hdd, this involves putting the hdd in a plastic bag and placing it in the freezer for about thirty minutes. This contracts the disks allowing them to spin, usually for a very short period of time. The link that I've provided below will show how not to do this, enjoy. I would like to install a wireless router for my girl friend who has a laptop, and wishes to use it in locations that I would otherwise have to intall new phone jacks. The system I'm thinking about is: Linksy WRT54G $39.99 after rebate Linksy USB 100B $25.64 Both items and prices are at Amazon. I had someone tell me that this system will not work with a dialup connection, is this true?

Hi all, I'm going to install a 200GB hdd that I've wiped and is ready to go. I have made a disk using Autostreamer slipstreaming W2k pro and sp4. My question is in regards to the partitioning section of the installation of the OS, I know from previous experience that the section will open with a screen with the words "Unpartitioned Space" with the amount shown on the right. With the 137GB limit, will my 200GB of unpartitioned space show or only the 137GB? If it doesn't and I proceed with the amount shown will the slipstream enable me to …
