Hey All. Have a question. I have this situation: in JavaScript I have a parent window that opens a child window using window.open(). Now, through the course of the whole thing, comes a point where the child refereshes the parent window using opener.location.reload(). After the reload happens, I have realized that the parent window no longer has references to its child windows. I need the newly reloaded parent window to still somehow have a references to the child windows so it could manipulate them. Any ideas would be great. An example would be fantastic. Thanks.

Hey Everybody, I keep getting these warnings when I compile my program: 19: warning: extra tokens at end of #ifndef directive 19: warning: missing whitespace after the macro name both apply to the same line number, which has nothing to do with the ifndef statement. I tried looking for an obvious solution, but could not find one. Any hints would be great. Thanks!

Hey Everybody, Silly question, which I don't have the time to figure out myself. In Jedit (a code editor for linux), does anyone know if it includes a function browser? If yes, then how do I get to it? Thanks.

Hey everybody, Could somebody please provide an example for using the STL find_if for the following task. I am trying to search a vector of structs, using the following criteria: compare whether the key of the struct in the vector matches the key of another struct (instace of the same type of struct) that I want to find. So basically search the vector for a particular struct. I want to use find_if, in order to replace the handwritten routine I have now. I have seen many complex, examples online. If anybody knows of simple and clean way, please share. Thanks …

Hi, does anybody know how check whether the socket (ie file descriptor) is valid in C? I know it is probably possible to do it using either a read or a write command, however, what other ways are there? Thanks.

Hi everybody. In C running in the Unix environment, there are many ways of getting the directory listing. One I know is to use the ftw library (the way I currently implement it), the other is to pipe from the ls, also sometimes you could use dirent.h. I realize that this is an OS dependent thing. If somebody knows an the easier way to get a list of files or directories in C please share (Yes, I googled this. However, I did not find anything I did not already know).

Does anybody know if Windows Vista will have multiple desktops like KDE, and GNOME for linux systems? I am glad that Microsoft FINALLY got the idea and included tabbed browsing in IE (about time). Windows would be so much better with this feature. I use it all the time in Linux and FreeBSD.

IRC chat here is always empty. Also, many times I have trouble connecting using the Java web client. It complains about sockets. Anyways, althought it is a forums based community, It would be nice if more people participated in the chat. It is always empty.

I perosnally like using the "Virtual Dimension" a free software that allows you to have multiple desktops in MS Windows (similar to KDE and GNOME--sad MS does not include this feature in Windows) It is especially good when I code or design stuff. I know there are many alternatives, and believe me I tried most of them. This one proved to be the most stable and functional. you can get it from: http://virt-dimension.sourceforge.net/ I usually use it in conjunction with gipo utilites (also free) in order to achieve things like making windows always on top, transparent, etc. You can get …

I have recently started using a pdf reader called FoxIt. What I like about it is that it is lite weight. Does not take 30 seconds to start like adobe. So, far it has been good with rendering all kinds of stuff. Wish it was avaliable for linux.

Hi everybody. I have recently been hit by some MSN messenger spammers. Here is what happens. On my buddy list I have some buddies who havent signed on for a long time. For example, my dad is one of my buddies. However, he has switched to AIM a long time ago, and does not use his MSN IM account anymore. Recently, I saw him sign on, and I started getting messeges from "him" in French or some other language. Also, a similar thing to some of my other buddies who did not sign on for a long time. Now, I …

WOW now it is illegal for you to install WC32Codecs in linux without paying a fee. I guess now I will have to settle for things like gstreamer, but that in no way a replacement for WC32COdecs...nothing in life is easy.

Neil: Ow, WOW heavy! My lentil binary trees are growing exponentially. Vivian: This calls for a subtle combination of mathematics and extreme violence. Rick: Oh you couldn't theorize even if you picked your nose with a silicon chip. Vivian: OK, watch! This is how you dismantle a binary tree in constant time... CRUNCH, CHOP, CRASH... Neil: WOW. Heavy. Look at the mess. Look at all the garbage! Garbage: Now they'll try to clean me up in constant time, but they've forgotten about all those cycles caused by curly lentils... Vivian: Oh no we didn't because I cut all the cycles …

Hey Everybody, As I have seen many times myself, a great way to break the ice, is to tell the most embarrasing thing that ever happened to you. C'mon people, you all know you had those moments. I will start. One time I was attending the UPE (Upsilon Pi Epsilon National Computer Science Society) ceremony. I was one of the inductees. The rules are that the ceremony requires certain chairs in the front row to be left vacant, and nobody should sit in them for any reason (symbolizing the founders of the society). Well...I was feeling a little tired from …
