When I try to execute my jar file through the command prompt by typing: java -jar myJar.jar It returns an error message saying that it can not access the jar file. Why is this? myJar.jar is the exact name of my jar file.

I built the computer that I am currently using last year, it is an asus A8n5x mb w/ amd 3200+ processor and 1 gig of ram.. its a great build, has never given me trouble before.. however, in the past week it has been very dificult to start it up. I usually put it in standby at night, and in the morning I will resume from the standby. Now, when I push the power button to resume from standby, the computer immediately shuts off. I try to turn it back on, it turns on for a few seconds, and then …

Ah, with the Super Bowl not far off.. I decided to designate this post to polling Daniweb as to which sport is most popular. As we all know, American football is the best from a business perspective: 1.) It's cheaper hosting the Super Bowl than the world cup 2.) The Super Bowl occurs every year 3.) Commercials during the Super Bowl average about $3 million per 30-minute spot 4.) The publicity from the commercials, half-time show, and actual gameplay contribute to record profits ($300 million economic impact on the local economy) Also, American football is the most popular sport in …

Illegal Immigration.. a huge political and social problem that plagues many countries. This thread is dedicated to thoughts on this issue, and how we can best solve this problem. As an American, no a Texan, I have experienced the affects of illegal immigration. Some people do not think it's such a big deal, but I beg to differ. For one, there are millions of illegals (mostly mexican) living in our country today. These people unlawfully cross into our borders.. and the liberals grant them all kinds of special rights. It seems like once they arrive then it's like paradise. Illegals …

Hello, I was just hoping for a bit of help or for someone to point me in the right direction. Okay, so this past August, I found a really old windows 98 machine (433mhz processor and 96mb of ram). I decided to put slackware on it, and mess around with it a bit. So, I now have a ssh and irc server running from it (schulte.homelinux.com), but now I am trying to configure apache to work properly. I have installed apache successfully, but for some reason I cannot access the apache server. I have port forwarding enabled for the router …

Dani- I think it would be a good idea to further explain reputation to new members. There are always so many threads started because people do not understand how it works. Most recently, this one: http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread108977.html It also took me a while before I figured out what was going on.. I think if you send them an introductory pm explaining how the reputation works (or if you already do, then think about making the message more understandable :)). This would save us time from having to explain to every new member via threads.

I'm having problems viewing all of my infractions. Apparently my old ones have scrolled off like what happens to reputation comments. Perhaps the infractions should be enlarged to encompass all of the infractions a member receives. :)

Yes, another controversial thread by me :) First of all, Let me just say that I am NOT racist, and that this thread is dedicated to the theory that there are genetic differences among the different human races. Don't be an ignorant fool and simply post 'oh this is bull!!'. It is scientifically plausible. Think about it: In the past, geography has been a major obstacle for humanity. Based on evolution and modern Darwinism, it is possible that homo sapiens gradually evolved, but slowly spread out across the globe. So, at one point all homo sapiens were genetically similar. However, …

As you all know, The NFL debut in London was this Sunday. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/afp/20071028/tuk-amfoot-nfl-dolphins-giants-b5b5cc4_2.html Apparently, there was a great turn out of 80,000+ people at Wembley. What do yall think? Will football catch on in Europe? Those of you who are British, do you think it went well?

I was just browsing through the Daniweb members list, and came across a rather surprising fact: 76,666 Daniweb members out of 115,914 have never posted once!:| That's about 66% of the entire community that hasn't contributed anything! Why is this? And why do these accounts not get deleted or in some way punished for not caring enough to contribute back to the community?

I've had a very strange incident with xp pro x64 today. I've had it for over a year, and today It kept crashing, and eventually wouldn't boot at all. Okay... So, I use Ubuntu (a linux distribution) instead. Towards the end of the day, I decide to restart and try to boot into xp. Grub comes up, and whoa! No xp! um, ok.. So I boot back into linux and change the Grub. Alright, finally xp loads up, but... ? It takes a very long time (I check the task manager, but It doesn't show any process hogging cpu or …

Since I have updated to feisty, I have had problems with suspend and hibernation. (Actually, I think I have successfully used suspend and hibernation in feisty, it may have been a while). Whenever I select to hibernate or suspend, my screensaver comes on for an instant and then it goes straight to a log-in page (As if I had just returned from hibernation/suspend). The computer never actually turns off. I have searched the web for a solution, and I have tried several things such as using 'uswsusp', editing File: /etc/default/acpi-support, etc... I think there may be a problem with my …

Hey, just wondering if anyone here does much trading. I've been trading in the stock market for a couple years or so.. I invest almost all my money that I have earned working. This year I haven't done too well. I've lost a little over a grand. Anyway, this thread is dedicated to any thoughts/suggestions about investing. Enjoy!

Alright guys.. I'm back in the java forums for help/suggestions. I'm sure one of the Daniweb java programming geniuses will be able to decide if this idea is too difficult or needs to be revised. I was thinking of writing a stock trend analysis program. There will be a stock object that contains an array of 10 doubles, each of which contain a dollar amount for the value of a specific stock. Every 6 seconds, a double is recorded from a quote streaming program provided by a broker. After all 10 doubles have been entered into the array (1 minute …

I've noticed that recently (in the last 5 hours or so) the right column of Daniweb is appearing to overlap the central most area.. Eh, hard to explain, I've posted a screen shot. Anyway, its nothing big.. just an annoyance. I've tried restarting Firefox, but this does not fix the problem so I'm assuming its something with the code.. I'm unable to click those little arrow buttons in the User CP, but other than that this problem hasn't caused any reduced functionality.

I just wanted to comment about the new Subscribed Forums feature incorporated into Daniweb.. I think it's very useful, and makes it easier on the user. However, is there any way that it could have the same properties as the Subscribed threads feature? That is, it disappears from the Subscribed Forums menu in the user's CP after the new post in the forum has been viewed.. I think it would be much more beneficial if it disappeared from the menu after the user has viewed the newest post in the particular forum to help the user better differentiate between forums …

Hey, I know there are a couple threads out there with a similar question; however, this thread isn't quite the same, nor will it last long. Okay, I'm buying a laptop for college this summer.. This is quite a controversial subject in the United States. I have been to many genetic conferences at several colleges, and stem cells were discussed in depth. I find it all very interesting, and I was just wondering what others thought of this matter. Most people believe human embryonic stem cell research/harvesting to be immoral, and I do agree that it has not produced the kinds of results that adult stem cells have so far. But, it appears as if we are discovering more about embryonic stem cells: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19067616/

This thread is intended to discuss college decisions and perhaps seek advice from graduates. The discussion of colleges/tuition has begun to take over the 'God v. Atheism' debate, and I felt the two issues needed to be separated. Also, please post your thoughts of college tuition these days.. College tuition has increased so rapidly that government financial aid cannot keep up! Tuition has increased at a rate faster than inflation ever since I can remember... This means colleges and universities are making much higher profits from our tuition.. And where is this money going? Probably straight to the top.. into …

I've written many java apps; however, I have never created anything that communicated with the Internet, or more specifically, web pages. How exactly would you go about doing this.. For instance, say I wanted to write a program that would log me in Daniweb, and send messages or posts to all of its members.. Or, how would I write a program that would receive input from the user in the form of a user name, and then look up the username on a high scores webpage. The program would output the user's score, and subscore.. Am I making any sense …

Recently, the U.S. Senate approved a bill that would instill a radical change over the United States' immigration policy. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501548.html "the measure calls for 370 miles of triple-layer fencing along the Mexican border, a complicated three-tiered system for determining who can stay and who must leave the country, and more jail cells for those awaiting deportation. It would declare English the country's national language, a gesture that many advocates found insulting but accepted in hopes of helping millions of undocumented workers achieve legal status." I had been aware of this issue for some time, but it was discussed indepthly on …

Recently, our emachines computer crashed (surprise, surprise). From what I can tell, the entire motherboard is no longer usable for whatever reason. There was some valuable information on the hard drive, so I installed it as a secondary hd in another computer. (From my previous experience, I have simply been able to move hard drives from one computer to another without any problems at all.) The next time I booted it, all worked well, and the information from the secondary hd was available. However, when I attempted to boot from the secondary hd (I tried making it primary hd, and …

Dani:
Hi. This isn't permanent. The permanent solution of only allowing members with more than 50 (??) posts to give negative rep will be implemented as soon as I get our new design out (figuring within the day). For those of you not privy to Area 51 ... yes, there's a new site design on its way. And I'm not saying anymore (you'll have to beg for more info from Area 51 people).
I'm sure this change is what she was referring to.. What do yal think of the change?

I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+, and I was just wondering how many people actually overlcock their cpus. I've overclocked a couple before.. but only by about 15-20%. My motherboard has a really easy jumperfree configuration, which makes overclocking simple. But before I overclocked anything, I just wanted to know if anyone actually thought it helped much? Does it have a long-term affect on the processor? If you wouldn't mind posting your processor, the percentage you overclocked it, and its effect, please do so! Thanks:cool:
